A Sad Day

Here's the sad news about our Gracie Girl: Looks like we're going to have to put her down. It's arranged for 11:30 a.m. We're heading down now to spend a little time with her and say our good-byes. It's a hard thing to do right before Christmas, but then, no time is a good time to lose a good friend. She has a complete intestinal blockage. It will require a big surgery, even if that could help, and there are no guarantees. At her age, it doesn't seem the best choice. She is suffering, and we feel that doing a procedure that invasive will simply prolong the inevitable. Thank you for all your well wishes and purrs.

Sincere condolences. Such a hard decision to make, even when you know it must be done. Sending you snuggles and purrs from me, Amy and Seymour. We almost lost our Seymour (who looks like Gracie w/o the orange) due to a similar problem, but were very lucky to get him through it without surgery. I fear the time when it might happen again.

Indeed so sad about Gracie, and it is always a gut-wrenching decision to make...even when we KNOW it's best for our fur-babies. We were in the same position with our much beloved Fanner three years ago. She had bladder stones and had already had one surgery removing them, and with all her other troubles, didn't want to put her through it again only to have them form again within six months. We made it past the holidays, but it was still very, very hard to say 'it is time'. Sorrowing for you, Mike and Smitty in losing Gracie and her presence.

I've read about Miss Gracie nearly every day for the last 5+ years. In some wierd way, she feels like she is part of my life too. I will miss getting to read about her days and her great naps and lap sitting. I can only imagine for her actual family. She will be greatly missed. 😢

I am so sorry about Gracie I was really hoping that she would be okay. Pets become so much a part of the family and it is so sad when we have to say goodbye to them. She will be missed by so many of us that read your blog.

Sad, sad news. Gracie adds a gentle spark to your blog with her comments regarding life around the 3 Cat Ranch. She leaves behind an army of admirers who will miss her presence. Knowing it is the right decision doesn't make it any easier. Prayers for all on the Ranch.

Oh, Barb. We just regained our power and heat here in Clatskanie, and one of the first things I wanted to do was check in with you, Mike, and the cats. Not to hear this, though. My heart breaks for you. We lost our Teddy two weeks ago, and his sister Mavis a year ago, and there is somehow an added poignancy to grieving at the holidays. I learned this with both of my parents, sadly.

But the truth is, any day is a hard day to say goodbye, but whenever Gracie left, it would be with the sure knowledge that she was loved dearly, fully, for all of her quirks and beauty. Perhaps it helps a bit to know that other hearts are filled with love and sorrow for you today, that other tears are falling for your Gracie girl, and for Smitty, who shall surely miss her, too. Please give Mike my condolences for the loss of his little companion.

xxx Beth

So sorry to hear about your gray tabby. We have one that looks just like yours and he has a white tuxedo front. We had a scare with him several years ago where his liver attacked his body and we had to feed him through a tube inserted in his abdomen. We are very happy that he survived and now rules the roost over an also male orange tabby and a littel black cat who has endless energy. When we had a previous cat pass on after being hit by a garbage truck, we started keeping all our kitties inside. Now when one "goes to kitty heaven," our daughters insist we replace it. I'm sure you being a cat lover will think about this, too. Despite your sadness, Season's Greeting from another cat lover.

My condolences. It is the kindest thing to do when they are suffering even though it just hurts the heart. I hope the holidays with family help soothe your sorrow.

We lost our Gracie 2 years ago and then Einstein 1 year later to throat cancer. The only way I get through a loss of this kind is to remember that they are no longer in pain, and they are running and playing on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. My purrayers are with your and your family.

I, too, had to make the same tough decision about my dog Tess this past Tuesday. She was 15 1/2 years and no longer had any quality of life. I will miss her so much as I know you will miss your Gracie. I am sorry for your loss.

My first blog was for my cats. In the at world we hope there is a place for our beloved pets to go. It is called the Rainbow Bridge.

https://rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm.

I am not Catholic, but agree with the Pope that pets go to heaven, too.

It gives us a little hope to be reunited with our fuebabies again some day
