Project Quilting Challenge #2 Complete!

If gold medals were awarded for the fastest finishes in history, this one would have to be a contender. I've worked most of my waking hours to get the Sunrise, Sunset challenge quilt complete, and I just now took the last stitches on the binding.

As you know, I took my original design from this book:

but had to re-engineer it a little bit when I made a most unfortunate error in cutting. It's okay, I think. As my friend, Sharon, said in a previous blog post, the original quilt made the sun look more like a reflection on a lake. I think it better fits the theme of "Sunrise, Sunset" the way I did it. It all works out with a little creative fixing.

Here's how it looks from the back:

And this will be my stand-in project (a switch from the one I had planned originally) for this month's

In the meantime, I'll be linking up to the linky party for:

Project QUILTING

Speaking of sunrises, we had a pretty one at the Three Cats Ranch this morning.

That's Mt. Adams you see at the lower middle of the image.

Tomorrow I'm heading over to Silverton for the workshop preceding the Stitches in Bloom quilt show. I'm attending Heidi Leuger's two-day workshop on wool felting. No sewing machines or supplies are required since she'll be selling the kits we need right there at the workshop. I'm pretty happy about not having to rip apart my sewing room collecting supplies. I can just take my usual overnight stuff and be done with it. Mike is coming over on Friday night and we'll meet for dinner. Then, Sue is coming over Saturday morning for breakfast and a morning walk through the Oregon Garden. Admission to the garden is included with the price of the show.

I'll be blogging while I'm gone since that's the only way I seem to be able to remember anything. If you're interested in wool felting, I'll be telling you all about it right here.

And now...I have some errands to run and some packing to do.

That was quick! Some errors turn out great, as that one did.

I just LOVE it!! And look how it resembles that lovely view you were blessed with. We have a daughter of one of our quilting students come occassionally and she works on her wool felting crafts - she makes the most amazing dolls and animals.

That sunrise would make a nice art quilt, the colors are layered perfectly.

Splendid! And the back is wonderful too!
Have fun in your workshop - we did a little bit of wool felting in one of our guild workshops & I enjoyed it.
I finished cutting the 2.5" squares for the Prez quilt today. Now to mix them, one of each color, so I can bag 'em up for the kits. And cut my own scraps to go with the batiks for the block I'll be making for it. One tiny bit at a time.

I love what you've done here! It seems to me like the mistake was supposed to happen to create this unique and fabulous piece! Thanks for joining in the pq fun!

There are no mistakes, only "intentional design elements." I love it when these things make the end piece better! www.quiltartbymegan.com

It is beautiful. By rotating it, you have an east and a west, Sunrise and Sunset.
