Me on Monday

Just now I took this selfie:

Yes, I'm hopelessly slug-like today. I had to leave the house early to get my annual physical, which included a fasting blood draw. I don't know if it's the lack of coffee or the vial of blood I gave up, but I am dragging. I ran a few errands after my doctor's appointment, including getting some new shoes at the New Balance store. This required me to walk through all the shops in this outdoor mall where I discovered I know nothing whatsoever about modern fashion. I don't think I even recognized a single store name until I got to the New Balance store. The "Cat's Crepes" restaurant cart making crepes right in front of me looked promising, however.

I passed shops with names like Yoohoolulu (or something like that), and Urban Bourbon (again, don't quote me). When I saw the Yoohoolulu store, I actually walked inside. They appear to sell nothing but leggings. "Are you looking for some new pants?" the store employee asked brightly.

"I was just walking by," I said weakly, since I didn't see anything that would remotely qualify as "pants". It could be that I'm just traumatized by the realization that the fashion world passed by me so swiftly that I didn't even see it when it happened...although I do recall a slight breeze.

Anyway, what's a woman to do when her daytime companions look like this?

Might as well go take up my own space on the couch because it's clear that the day is a total loss.

And I'm still basting that blasted cat quilt. Honestly, what is there to live for?

On a brighter note, in between moving my quilt to the next section yesterday, I realized that I could make a space on my table to sandwich the Aspen Tree quilt. At least I'm not held prisoner by Psycatdelic. I could do some real sewing if I want to.

Okay...onward. It's time.

Oh dear, selfies never make us look our best, do they? You were right to walk away from Youhoowhatever. No matter what they try to tell us, leggings are NOT pants, at least not for people over 30. I saw some on a 70year old woman recently. Very thin, excellent shape, but still Not Right. Shudder. Don't despair, you will find something new to live for soon -- maybe Somebody will bring you a juicy mousie to cheer you up. Happy thought. :)

Leggings were wrong the first time around and now they seem to be made of much thinner fabric which reveals way too much. Not great even on young women. Opps sorry leggings just make me want to rant, must be getting old. Hmm let's think lovely fabric thoughts or warm summer day thoughts.

I got blood drawn last week and felt the same way, wasted for the rest of the day. I have a couple pair of leggings, but use them for pajama bottoms. The fleece lined ones are so warm, but you wouldn't catch me outside the house in them! Have a great week.

Sorry about your sluggish day! LOL on the leggings...anything is better than the pj pants I see all the young people wearing about!

You crack me up. Funny thing is that we played hooky today and didn't go to work. One of the few benefits of living with / working for the owner of a business. We went to the mall, mainly to get some lunch, but ended up walking around a little too. I said the same thing about some of the stores. I didn't recognize most of them. I realized that we hadn't been in that mall, or any mall really, since just before Christmas of 2013. Big shoppers that we are! LOL I never was one of those fashionistas, even when I was young and skinny. I even commented to Bruce that when I wore "office" clothes, I mainly got them at Sears and JC Penney. They had nice, conservative stuff for decent prices. I could care less whose name is on the label, as long as it looked nice and fit comfortably. We also joined a gym on our way home...... We'll see how that goes. Otherwise, we spent the day sitting in our recliners on our laptops, so you're not the only slug out there!

I didn't do leggings the first time around - oh, I wouldn't know the stores anymore either - I just don't do malls. I filled in for my Mom's sewing class today as she had a funeral to attend with some friends. They are working on colorwash (not my favorite technique) but it was a fun day of chatting and everyone helping each other out.

I know about being sluggish, that was my day too. I think you went into Lulu Lemon and it's a store for doing yoga and having training at the gym. But don't feel bad about not knowing about it, my 38 yr old daughter just loves that store, hence I know about it. The other was probably Urban Outfitter, again my daughter. I do go to the mall and walk around, fashion passed me by a loooonnnngggg time ago. I enjoy jeans, sweatpants and shorts topped off with t-shirts (long and short sleeve) with a sweatshirt put on for warmth. no sewing for me today either but that's ok because I can sew tomorrow (happy dance). Have a fun week, we are getting rain off and on again....oh well.

I am quite surprised you think yourself a slug, usually you get a lot more done than I do and I am always impressed when I get to see your fur babies! Enjoy a little rest you have earned it!

Yup - that was LuluLemon you were into. I know that because my son does a running riff on the women who patronize that store.....it was hilarious! I wish I had recorded it.....by the time I thought of that I was sitting on the floor trying to catch my breath from laughing so hard. And... Slug you are not Miss Barbara.....you run rings around many of us quilters who think we are doing a lot.. enjoy the day off.

I think leggings are great - under jeans when it's really cold outside. Hah! I had a PJ day yesterday. I kept thinking about going somewhere, but nah. I did take that painting off the stretchers though! Today I actually painted at Auntie's Ceramics again. It's been so long I almost forgot what I was doing. But I finished the 2 spoon rests - we'll see how I did when they come out of the kiln.
Smitty & Gracie look like the perfect companions for a sluggish kinda day. Purrrrrr.....

A store that sells only leggings and calls them pants? I'm just going to stay on my island with my daytime companions who don't care what I wear as long as I don't put shoes on which means I'm leaving by the front door.

I was wondering if it was just me, but now that I have read your post and the comments, I feel much better. Who needs a therapist, right? Haha! We NEVER go to malls, I only have two kinds of clothes, the business ones for when I am required to show my face at customers' offices, and the comfy ones for when I'm home. :) Another thing I have noticed though, when we frequent our downtown area -- seems like many females are stuck in the leggings or jeans with boots rut. Me? I would rather be an individual!! Power to the comfy clothes!

There is no such thing as fashion any more. Have you tried to shop for a dress lately or even a skirt? The clerks look at you like you have three heads. I find stuff I can wear in the second-hand or consignment shops...usually in the "old hippy" section. Sad but true. Comment on the basting..pin basting is all I do. Much faster and it works for me.

I was with you totally, feeling your pain...until I saw Gracie's selfie which can now be used to define suffering. So the scoreboard shows: Gracie 10, Barbara 2, Smitty -3.

Fasting tests are never fun, I always end up with a headache and that pretty much ends my day. Hope you got in a nice nap.

Haha, I had my physical two days after yours. Since I worked the night before, I scheduled it for later in the afternoon after I woke up. Quick breakfast when I got home, but I was still ready to gnaw my arm off at the doctor's in the afternoon! Went directly to Dunkin Donuts for a large coffee when I was done!
