A Quilting We Will Go

Today is a day at home, and I have four quilts sandwiched and ready for quilting. I'll bet you can't guess how I'm spending my day. This morning I finished sandwiching Shoot for the Moon:

I'll start with that one, and I already have some cute ideas about how to quilt it. I'm not sure yet what to do with the borders. The black strips are one inch, and the yellow strip is 1/2-inch. There isn't much room for any kind of design, and so I might just stitch some straight lines. As for the rest, I have lots of ideas. I just hope I can pull it off.

Also this morning, I sandwiched my mini quilt, Sew Helpful.

True to form, I had a lot of help on this one.

Hey, that's one good-looking cat there!

While I was torturing myself thread-basting Psycatdelic, I moved everything aside and sandwiched Aspen Tree. I thought I might sew on it while I took breaks from thread-basting. I didn't. This one will probably be reserved for Big Bertha since it's a small quilt and I can do a better job top-stitching with her. Besides, Eliza will be hard at work on the other quilts.

Anyway...the mind reels with anticipation.

It's a pretty, sunny day, although it is chilly out. It's a perfect day for luxuriating in Eliza's window seat quilting to my heart's content. And that's what I'm just about to do.

they all look great, if you haven't already started the moon quilt, how about bubbles(planets?) on the black part of the sashing and then leave the yellow alone, so it kind of puffs up? you can do bubbles around the stars too and leave the stars alone.

I love them all, and Shoot the Moon just blows me away. I have been reading you for a long time now, and you have 'grown' in a quilty way by leaps and bounds. I hope you can see that, too. I am remaining the same, dependable slacker I was at the beginning, to help you gauge your progress. A sacrifice I am willing to make, just for you.

I can hear Eliza humming along from all the way down here! As for me, I'm about to start digging to find my Challenge fabric packet. Hopefully I have enough fusible to even start work on it! I've got some chicken simmering on the stove for soup & even washed some dishes today. Must also excavate Mt. Laundry too. Away with me!

They are all wonderful and having two machines to fullfill the needs is always a plus. Hope you are enjoying. I hope to get to my two quilts this weekend now that my SIL is finished with the large banquet table - she's still not brave enough to quilt her own and has it ready to hand off to the long armer tomorrow.

Take lots of breaks. Be kind to your neck and shoulders. All those quilts look fantastic.

The sandwiching is the part that slows me down the most. Is that a ping pong table you are using for the sandwiching? A pretty famous quilter claims that using tape makes our quilts wavy. Do you find that so? Love all your quilt tops, especially the kitty one.

Yes, it is a pingpong table. It's a great table for a sewing room. Yes, I've heard that claim that using tapes makes ones quilt wavy...or gives them "wings". I've found that if I simply smooth the back onto the table without stretching it taught, I have no problem with that. When I first started doing it this way, I was stretching the fabric tight over the surface, and that will give you waves and wings. My tape is just holding the back in place, without putting any tension on the fabric.

Oh, wow, Barbara! "Aspen" is spectacular. :)
