Sleepless

It's been a very busy week, out taking care of business and generally running around. Yesterday I went swimming, and then I went to get my hair permed.

* * * * *
And that's as far as I got before Mike came home. I had to go give him a welcome home greeting. Now, ahem. As I was saying...

I got my hair permed, a process I truly dislike, but I like what it does for my fine, straight hair. For a few days at least, I feel as if I have Maria Shriver hair. If only. So I haven't done any sewing in three days, and I was Jonesing for it today.

And I just want to say here that I went swimming yesterday, even though the pool and my hairdresser were on the other sides of town from one another. Other Me had a perfect opportunity to allow me to talk myself out of exercising altogether, but Me would not hear of it. Other Me didn't even bring it up. I'm thinking that's a good sign, and maybe I'm beginning to make exercise a routine part of my life. That can only be a good thing.

Last night, I couldn't get to sleep. My allergies were really kicked up and I didn't fall asleep until after 2:30 a.m. Then, at around 6:00 a.m., my furry alarm clock had me awake for his morning treats and his liberation from the depths of the house into the wide world. Besides, Gracie was wondering why I didn't get off her morning napping spot. So, I've been kind of dead today, but nevertheless, I did get some sewing done.

I did the top-stitching for the latest of the Folk Art Cats, and I added the narrow border. Adding the border allowed me to finish fusing down the cat's paws and to top-stitch the whole leg.

The beachball he's balancing is on the sashing, which is sewn to the block above.

This one, and so I fused and top-stitched that too.

And then, I made the whirlygig, which will go on the sashing below the new block.

And then, I was ready for a nap. And then I sat down to write this blog post. And then Mike came home. And then, that was the end of the day.

You can see why I haven't done much blogging the last couple of days. Tomorrow I'm going to the opening of the Farmers Market at Portland State University with Erik and Mae, and I Can. Not. Wait. The weather is looking good, and I am so ready for my huevos rancheros that I buy for breakfast from one of the vendors there.

On Sunday, Matthew and his squeeze, Valerie, are coming for a St. Patrick's Day dinner of corned beef and cabbage and some other goodies. I'll tell you more about that tomorrow. But for now, I'm signing off. Time to go settle in with the hubby.

Love seeing your cat blocks and the fun fabrics. I do have a few laurel burch books, need to try some art pieces.

These blocks are wonderful. I particularly like the brown cat with the checkerboard border. The kitty looks like it's up to mischief.

Thursday was my guild meeting. I didn't finish my Song Title challenge quilt. No excuses. I got part of it done, then didn't like the way I had planned the background, so I stopped. I was a bit worried that no one would show up for the meeting since we didn't have a speaker this time & had a pillowcase sewing night planned. But about 50 of us were there & I think half stayed to make the p'cases, so I was happy! The Song Title Challenge quilts that WERE turned in were so much fun! I should have taken pictures of them, but being the Prez doesn't leave me much free time to linger at any one place. (some of the songs shown: Rockin' Robin, How Much is that Doggy in the Window, Rock Around the Clock, Monster Mash, Red Sails in the Sunset - and one that didn't have its name on the back. Jean said it was Follow the Yellow Brick Road, & I said The Wall by Pink Floyd!)
During our break I got a call to work today again, so that was good too. :D Sent out more applications, but my fingers are cramping from keeping them crossed all the time....
I L*O*V*E the cats quilt! It makes me happy every time you show another block - can you hear me cheering from there?

The quilt is wonderful and getting better by the moment. Good for you on the swimming! I walked four days in a row last week and then totally forgot that I even intended to do it, haven't walked since. It sure is hard to make it a part of my automatic routine. :( Time with husbands is more important than anything, so good for you. I wish I had one, I'd get even less done. :)

I'm really loving the cat quilt, the colors are so wonderfully intense.
Valerie? is that the woman we met a while ago? Tell all, you haven't mentioned her so I thought it didn't work out.

Congrats on keeping with your exercise program, that's so hard to do.

Love your new addition to your cat quilt, very vibrant.

Hope your sinuses are under control and you've caught up with your rest.
