2013 Recap of Finished Projects

It's time to link up to the end of the year recap for 2013's A Lovely Year of Finishes. I don't know about you, but this challenge kept me moving along all year. Sadly, I was off to a bad start because I missed the January finishes party by a day. Being new to the game, I expected the linky party to start at the beginning of the month. Dutifully, I went to link up, and I'd already missed the party. It's kind of the story of my life. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Oh wait....that doesn't work. Check back later and I'll come up with something apt. Please bring tissue. Anyway, I did reach my goal to finish the top for the Plain and Simple Amish Sampler. No link to anything here, but here's the picture of the completed top. You'll see the quilted and bound top a little later on in this post.

In February, I got with the program and finished the quilting for the Two Grandmothers Baby Quilt. This quilt has a story behind it that you can read  right here. And you can find my February Finish post right here.

In March, I committed to finishing the quilting and binding for the Perfect Harmony quilt for Matthew's birthday. My March Finish post is right here. And here's Matthew's quilt:

April had me committing to binding the Plain and Simple Amish quilt mentioned above. It was back from my talented long-arm quilter, Erin Davis, who did a beautiful job on the quilting. It was exactly what I wanted. Here's my April Finishes post, and here's the finished quilt.

Erin's quilting is so pretty that I have to show you both sides.

In May, I committed to finishing the Divine Promises quilt. This was a Jenny of Elefantz design that I made for my friend Lisa in California. Here is my May finishes post, and here is Lisa's quilt:

In June, I committed to quilting and binding the Love Me, Love My Cat quilt. Here is my June finishes post. This quilt is traveling as I write this. I've entered it in the Bird Brain Designs' Redwork Challenge for the Road to California quilt show later on this month. And here are my kitties:

July saw the finish of the Hello Moon QAL by April Mae Designs. Here is the July finishes post, and here is the Hello Moon quilt. This quilt won a red ribbon in the Oregon State Fair...my first ribbon, and so very exciting for me!

August had me committing to finishing the True Hope quilt. Here is my August finishes post. This quilt had special meaning to me because of the quote from Shakespeare that inspired its name. You can read the story in the link I've provided. I gave this quilt to my cousin Rebecca, and here's how it looked when it headed off for its new home:

We traveled the entire month of September, and so I made a small commitment to quilt and bind the Wonky Houses table runner I'd just finished. This is another of Jenny of Elefantz' designs. Here's my September finishes post written early in the month, and here's how the table runner turned out.

October we were home and I was back into the swing of things. I committed to quilting and binding the Snow Birds quilt. Here is my October finishes post, and here is my quilt. This quilt is entered in the Stitches in Bloom Quilt Show in Silverton, Oregon later this month.

November I committed to finishing the quilting and binding for the Vintage Miniature Sewing Machines quilt. It's the one month of the year that I did not finish my quilt. I just wasn't ready to tackle it. It's my January goal for the 2014 ALYoF. I won't show it since it wasn't finished, but I wanted to acknowledge it as an unfinished goal.

Finally, in December, I committed to finishing two quilts to make-up for missing my November goal. My official commitment for December was to tie and bind the Salt Water Taffy quilt I'd been working on for so very long, and I did it. Here's my December finishes post, and here's the Salt Water Taffy quilt:

And to make up for not finishing November's quilt, I wanted to stay on my schedule of finishing at least one quilt per month in 2013. I chose to quilt and bind a small table runner for good measure. Although this wasn't part of my commitment for ALYoF 2013, I'm still acknowledging it as a finish.

And those aren't all my finishes for the year. Here's a little run down on my other finishes for the year...not part of the challenge:

Sled Ready (January doll quilt swap)

I'm a Little Biased (for the "It's All About Me" blog hop)

Cat Patches (March doll quilt swap)

Line Dancing (just for fun)

Happy Birthday (April doll quilt swap)\

A Slice of Summer (May doll quilt swap)

For the Birds (June doll quilt swap)

Star and Stripes (July doll quilt swap)

Hello Kitty Doll Quilt (for a friend's little girl)

Home Sweet Home (a housewarming gift to celebrate Erik and Mae's becoming first-time homeowners)

Cat House (October doll quilt swap)

That makes 23 finished projects in 2013. Not a bad year, all in all. Now it's on with 2014! Let's all sew our guts out!

You got so much done in 2013! It's hard to pick a favorite of all of them -too many great ones - you could have your own show.

I was exhausted when I got to the end--maybe need a nap. :-) That is a lot of finishes, especially when so many include hand embroidery.

I LOVE the Amish inspired quilt--I am always pleased to see colors made to work in combinations I'd not thought possible.
