Sew Close

Today I spent part of the morning and most of the afternoon sewing together the blocks for the Vintage Miniature Sewing Machines quilt. All that's left now is to finish the outer border. Here's what I did today:

First, I used the decorative sewing machine stitch from my sewing machine to sew a border across the top and bottom of each block.

Then I sewed the blocks together with a pretty green batik.

I might have finished the whole quilt today because only the outer border is left, but when I sewed the bottom row of blocks onto the top upside down, I decided to quit when I got it to this point.

Tomorrow I'll sew the outer border on (or maybe Tuesday), and then it will be ready to quilt. This is the fabric I'm using for the outer border, and then I'll use that same green batik for the binding.

Besides, Smitty was tired of sewing by that time.

He thinks its time for his dinner.

How did your weekend go?

The sewing machine stitched borders are wonderful! I know what you mean about stopping when you sew something on upside down.

This weekend has been good for me too. Went to a So. Calif. Council of Quilt Guilds meeting yesterday & we learned about lots of different games to play at guild meetings. Today & made some chili...just had some & it's a BIT hotter than I planned. Seems that the can of diced green chilis that I opened were actually diced JALAPENOS! It's still yummy though. :)

I like the little sewing machine borders. They came out great. And I think it's always best to quit sewing when something goes on upside down. For me that's a signal that the old brain is tired. Sounds like you had a wonderful "birthday boy" and sewing weekend. I've spent a good many hours sewing as well, but did get out for about 5 hours of motorcycle riding today. Weather is gorgeous. VBS (very BIG smile)

The decorative stitching is fabulous! That quilt is definitely a show stopper!! I completely understand when it's time to quit because you sewed something wrong....happens to me quite often. I'm with Smitty about it being dinner time, they just seem to know. Glad you have a great weekend.

What a clever idea to add those cute sewing machines as a border on each block. Wonder if my machine has anything that cute. Smitty is always keeping you on track. It's nice to have such a good supervisor to help you get things done. Mine is too old and all she does is sleep -- but she's really good at it! lol
