Thoroughly Thursday

It is Thursday, right?  Sometimes I lose track of days.  Today I needed to do some utilitarian sewing.  For one thing, I needed to put a hanging sleeve and a label on the You are my Sunshine quilt in order to get it ready for its coming out party at the Oregon State Fair later this month.  I used a tutorial from Tall Grass Prairie Studio for the hanging sleeve.  It's one I've used before, and it's easy to follow.

I still need to hand sew it to the back, but that shouldn't take too long.

Then I used Printed Treasures and some quilt label software to make a label for it.  I start with the template from the software and then use Photoshop Elements to personalize it.  This particular template was just right for this quilt.

And that still needs to be hand sewn as well.  I'm thinking I can finish both tomorrow morning, and then my quilt will be ready to deliver to the folks at the Oregon State Fair.  The fair runs from August 23-September 2, 2013 this year.  I'm getting kind of excited about it!

Also today, I made the back for the True Hope quilt.  I used the remainder of the fabrics from the front.

Here's what I did for the back.

I used all of the swallow fabric, but I still have a little left from the others.  This quilt was made entirely from fabrics in my stash.  That red floral fabric in the middle is what I'm using for the binding.  The quilting is going to be done in red thread, and I think I have an idea how to quilt it now.  My plan is to start on that next week.

So that's all the sewing I did today.  We have dinner guests coming Saturday evening, and so I'll probably spend a good portion of tomorrow getting ready for that.  Even when I try to keep it simple, it still ends up taking a lot of time for some reason.

How did your Thursday go?  Did you do anything fun?

Oh...and don't forget...I'm having a special giveaway on my blog tomorrow.  I'll give you another two word hint:  "Shed Blanket".  It's a short giveaway...only through Monday, so don't miss out!

Yay for all from stash!! It's such a pretty quilt, too. And I'm so glad you're sending your suns to the show! :D People will love seeing them there. I love having a quilt in any show - it's so fun to help create the magic for people to walk into.

I played in donated fabric with my favorite five-year-old and she was so excited when I told her she could pick any ten she wanted--firsties !~! The grinning and the choosing and the sighing... it was magnificent to watch. A good Thursday all around, next to last day with an unfamiliar eight-month-old who doesn't stay happy for long during the course of the day. Bummer really cuz she's cute, just cranky.

Those little bits of finish on the 'Sun' will take no time. Love the label. Thursday I played sewing with my SIL - her an apron, me the next doll quilt.

I am working on Feathered Star from Hoop Sisters. The border has 44 embroidered blocks. I am using 12 colors of marbled Batiks and variegated thread on these. I finished 8 blocks (2 colors) today. I only have 4 colors or 16 blocks to go and then I can start putting it together.

I love that the little finishes that you don't consider much sewing would take me all summer to complete, lol. Beautiful quilts! Love the label. :)

Thanks for that link, I've wanted to do that a few times but always walked away, sometimes instructions look like goobly gook to me.

Thanks for the link as I'm going to hang my Dresden Plate quilt but wasn't sure how to make the hanging sleeve. I like the way you've pieced the fabric for the back and the sound of the red quilting. It should look fab.

Very cute label. Over the years I've used various software to make my labels, but I didn't know that Printed Treasures had templates.

Congrats on getting the back made for True hope. You've been really moving along with your projects this summer.
