It was a porcelain crown. Crap. Oh well. At least I didn't swallow it. Or break it. It's from a dental implant, so it isn't bothering me because the only thing exposed is the prosthetic root of the implant. I have a regular check-up scheduled with my dentist about ten days hence, but when I called the office, they told me it would be a bad idea to wait that long. Oh joy. I get to drive downtown today...to see the dentist. As you might imagine, I'm thrilled beyond belief. By "beyond belief" I mean that if you believe I am thrilled, then I'm guessing you must be a lot of fun at a party.
It's an hour to drive downtown, then I'm guessing an hour at the dentist's office, then another hour to drive home. So that pretty much shoots the entire afternoon. Oh well. If it's the worst thing that happens all day, it will be a good day. This is one of those times when one is grateful for such a minor inconvenience. My friend Lisa, who visited last week, is now under mandatory evacuation from her home because of a wildfire burning too close for comfort to her little town of Idyllwild.
So all of that to say that a trip to the dentist feels like a minor inconvenience in contrast. I used the morning to finish quilting the blocks of the Hello Sun quilt. I still have quite a bit of straight line quilting to do, and I'll probably do a sort of stipple that includes loopy suns in the border. As I said, I'm making it up as I go along. I stuck with my design of adding rays to the suns except for a few of the blocks that gave me other ideas.
Of course, I added a spider web to the October block. (I left these images intentionally shadowy and dark so that you can see the quilting.)
For the December block, I added some snowflakes over the tree...
...and I made some hoof prints in the snow for Rudolph.
Also, I added some snowflakes to the January block.
And a cloud with some rain to the March block.
And then I quit. It's time to take a shower and get going now. Hopefully, I'll get home early enough to do a little more sewing this afternoon, but I'm not counting on it.
How's your Thursday going? No fires burning nearby, I hope.

Yuck! I hate going to the dentist even if I'm not in pain. I can't even think of how many appointments I've cancelled!! Only to have to go at some point anyway.
At least you aren't in any pain and they could get in right in. I'm sure that is at a premium price as well as the 3 wasted hours of your day.
Well, at least you didn't have any pain and could get in to the dentist right away! I hope your friend is ok and that her home doesn't burn. How absolutely frightening. At least with the hurricanes here, we have plenty of warning. I am loving the Hello Sun quilting! You do such fantastic work.
I hope Lisa's doing OK. I hate fire season.
Were they able to reglue your crown? And I don't suppose they took care of your regular check-up while they were at it?
How horrible for your friend, more and more fires! Your blocks are cute.
I'll be thinking of Lisa and hope that her, her family and friends are OK!
I feel for you having to go to the dentist, not a great place to spend the day!
I hope you get your crown sorted out and you manage to have some time to yourself for fun things. You hello sun quilt is looking magnificent, I love the way you're quilting it.
No fires this year, just lots of rain. I'd be so worried about your friend, keep us up to date please.
We definitely need a "follow-up" post to this saga!! And yes, in the grand scheme of things this doesn't rate with a wild fire bearing down on one's home! I pray that your friend is safe (and all others in the town). Hugs......
Double crap about your crown. To me, crowns belong on your head not in your mouth..but that's just me. No fires around here but it feels like it could spontaneously combust outside. Very hot. Hope your friend and her neighbors are safe. Hate to see all the destruction.
My son is one of the firefighters on that fire. Prey for their safety.
Ah yes, all my crowns definitely make me the princess, so I always say. My last crown tho was a bit of trouble - I flew from Ft. Myers, FL to Greensboro, NC, had my friend pick me up & take me home, then the next day to the dentist in Winston-Salem, NC, and then right back to the airport in Greensboro. Because of a 3 hour plane delay, I decided I should get a hot dog (remember, I just had a crown put on & a hot dog is soft, right?). Well, fooey, that stinkin' crown came right off. Called back to the dentist, hoping she'd offer to run out to the airport & glue it back on....silly me. Her advice? Chapstick. Yes, really, stuff it with Chapstick and stick it back on. I did, and it worked!! Flew all the back down to Ft. Myers with it safely in place. Until the next morning, when I promptly swallowed it with my BLT chewins. Yeah, she forgot to tell me to remove it for eating. Thankfully, she'd kept the mold & had it recast & sent to me for replacement in about a week. Definitely one of my most memorable crowns.
I'm loving the details you've added in your quilt blocks - I tried (again) for a real simply loop-de-doo in a 1.5 inch sashing strip....oh, but I have such a deep respect for people like you that can bring out such cuteness. My loop-de-doo was a miserable flop, so I took it all out (FOUR TIMES) and just did straight-lines about a half inch apart, in diamond shapes around the squares in squares. Turned out nicely, but certainly nuthin' to brag about or display anywhere but my own home, where hubby just loves & admires anything I make (he's so easily pleased!).
God bless your friend, her town & the brave firefighters there.
It was best to get that tooth taken care of! love the details you are adding to the blocks. No fires here. Just some much needed rain and cooler weather.
Nan
Funnily, we visited my Mum today who said she has a loose tooth. Then she explained it was a crown, which is fine as long as she doesn't swallow it. Must happen at a "certain age". Something I can wait for!
It is no fun to have quilting plans disrupted. You still managed to get a lot done. All the Sunshine blocks look great.
