What Happened on Wednesday

Today I was able to get quite a bit done on my embroidery project, but there wasn't a whole lot of time for sewing.  Nevertheless, I did have time to quilt two more blocks on the Hello Sun quilt.  I'm calling this quilt "You are my Sunshine", for the record.  I quilted this first block yesterday, but my original picture was blurry.  Here's my second try at it:

This afternoon, I just had enough time to squeeze in two more blocks.

For most of the blocks in this quilt, I'll just be adding rays from the suns, but I have a few more creative things planned for some of the blocks.

I'm going to outline all of the blocks, and then I'm going to do some straight-line quilting, and perhaps some more suns on other parts of the quilt.  I'm sort of making it up as I go along.

This morning, I went for my monthly pedicure.  My little piggies are feeling so fine right now.

Then I went to the grocery store.  That took me most of the remainder of the day.  When I got home, I found this in the mail.  Isn't it the most fun to receive a package that looks like this?  This one is from Sweden.

It's from Lizzie, my April partner in the Doll Quilt Swap.

 Doll Quilters

Isn't this adorable?  The theme for the April swap was "Animals" and this is what Lizzie came up with.  I love the colors and the fabrics.

Look at the beautiful fabric she used on the back.

If, like me, you didn't recognize this character, Lizzie included this helpful card.

I haven't actually ever seen that movie, but now I'm curious.  I'm going to have to look for it.  Also, she included these candies from Sweden.  Mike and I made short work of the chocolate.  The "Yup" is sort of like a sour gumdrop.  Yummy.  Those won't last long either.

Thank you, Lizzie.  It is precious and I love it.  It was well worth the wait.  Lizzie and I were in contact the whole time, and I knew it would come eventually.

Speaking of animals, Smitty has become quite the little hunter.  He goes out early in the morning, and he might come in for a treat once or twice.  Otherwise, he is outside nearly all day.

That will change when the rain returns, but for now, he's enjoying his summer.  And he has put a serious dent in the small rodent population around the Three Cats Ranch.  His dad couldn't be happier about that.

He keeps his energy up with a little nip every now and then.

And if you're wondering about the smudges on his white parts, you should know that he's discovered the fine art of the dust bath.

When he comes in for his dinner, he licks and licks and licks until all of his white parts are dazzling again.

So tomorrow is another stay-at-home day for me.  I'm looking forward to getting quite a bit of quilting done, but I'll have to squeeze in some housework too.  Friday afternoon we are taking the boat out on the river.

It was a good day here in Oregon.  I hope you had a good day too.

I just love that doll swap quilt, what a great cat for your collection! Those Hello Sun blocks are looking good, the simple quilted sun rays are perfect. Does Smitty loan out his services?

So it's true, your little piggies went to market. The quilting on the sun blocks is perfect. The doll quilt is also perfect. Lizzie is such a perceptive swap partner. Glad to see the Smitty Patrol is at work. Hot & humid in Minn. The corn likes this weather.

My Neighbor Totoro is probably one of our all time favorite children's films. Engaging for the whole family, sweet, simple and magical. The little quilt is so cute. Love the sun rays you're adding, just the right touch.

Your swap quilt is so cute. I'm glad she sent an explanation because I would have never guessed it either. With no little ones in my family or near by, I miss all the current trends in all things children. Tell Smitty we could use his talents on our property too. Does he go on the road?
