Suddenly Sunday

Does it seem like the weeks fly by to you?  The weekends surely do.  Today I attended the third of four classes for my new sewing machine.  We went over more of the functions of the machine.  I won't remember how to do any of them, but knowing its capabilities is half the battle.  If I know it is capable of doing (or not doing) something, I can look it up.  Plus, it gave me a chance to see this particular quilt shop in its brand new location.  The classroom is smaller, but the store itself seems much roomier.  I'll go back again and do a review of it, but for today, I was just there for the class.

When I got home, I sat around for a while, took a nap, and generally wasted time.  Nevertheless, I did get the background made for the January block of my Folk Art Cats quilt.

Tomorrow I hope to have time to start adding the cat.

 Doll Quilters

Then Saturday afternoon I received the sweetest doll quilt from my partner for April.  The theme for the April swap was "Happy Birthday" to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the doll quilt swap.  Since my partner Diane and I both have May birthdays, we decided to stick with the theme.  And lo and behold, we both made cake quilts.  Isn't this just the cutest thing?

Look at how cute these embellishments are!

She used a colorful stripe for the binding, and my favorite polka dots for the back.

Also included in the package were some Minnesota-themed charm squares

And this card that Diane made herself!

Thanks again, Diane, for such a fun swap.

So that's it from me for today.  Tomorrow I have kind of a busy schedule.  I'm going to do a Curves workout, then pick up some carpeting samples.  Then, I want to stop in and get some annuals to plant in my terra cotta pots that live in front of the house.  The weather is supposed to be nice this week, and so I'm planning to spend quite a bit of time in the garden.  Hopefully, the forecast won't change.

Have a good week, Everybody!

I had a bit of a slow weekend as unplanned company - but that's ok. I love the cake! The candle embellishments are so cute! And what a great card - homemade cards are just a treasure.

What a sweet piece! How fun it will be to hang your very own, personal, Happy Birthday Banner come the month of May! (Because you do celebrate the month long, right? I mean, doesn't everybody do that?!?)!!! :)

Love the cake quilt, it looks so yummy it's a shame it isn't edible. Looking forward to seeing the cat on that background. The weather here in London is warm and sunny so we went to the garden centre over the weekend and I now need to get planting. Have fun in the garden.

I doubt if any one of us uses the full capacity of our sewing machines! Mine has dozens of embroidery stitches and two alphabets but I have had no use for them so far!

Ha - I've had my embroidery machine for a few years now, and just the other day I realized how to use one of its features...now I use it ALL the time!

That birthday quilt is adorable - it's all those details that really make it zing!
