52 Photos Project: Your Favorite Place

The prompt for this week's 52 Photos Project is  "Your Favorite Place".  Wow.  I puzzled over this one for a while because my favorite place at any given time depends on what I'm doing.  Am I camping?  Relaxing?  Sewing?  Scuba Diving?  Hiking?  It was hard to choose just one.  Nevertheless, I've been aching to go scuba diving again before I get too darned old...in about three weeks...and so I chose my favorite place to scuba dive:  Bonaire.

Bonaire is a desert island about 60 miles off the coast of Venezuela.  It's a part of the Netherlands Antilles, and so the Dutch influence is strong.  The islands of the Netherlands Antilles are also known as the "ABC" islands:  Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao.  I've also heard that some will add the "D" island, Dominican Republic.  The less touristy of the three, Bonaire is our favorite.  For all the fun that scuba diving is, it can also be a lot of work in the form of early mornings to catch a boat, rough seas, rocking boats, and crowds of divers.  The best part of scuba diving is being under water where everything is slow, quiet, and peaceful.  One of the things we love about Bonaire is that it is almost exclusively shore diving.  That means we rise when we want, dive when we want, go where we want, relax and unwind.  Ahhhhhhhhhhh.  Makes me want to take the plunge right now.

We were to Aruba and Curacao this winter and I really liked Curacao These were the stops on our cruise. We didn't get to Bonairo. Its nice to hear someone talk about the Island as we do a lot of cruises and hopefully that will be a stop some year. We want to do the Southern Islands again. All those Islands would be nice to spend some time.

#2 son is in to the diving thing. I will have to pass this locale info along to him. With the ugly weather outside right now it is truly a welcome sight to see such gorgeousness!!!! Seize every moment and use it to its fullest!!! Hugs, Doreen

It's something I've not tried, but the color of that water could definitely tempt me in. I've heard of the A, C, and D places, but never heard of Bonaire. I will have to investigate that.

Wow! That sounds fantastic! I've only been diving in Florida and always from a boat. Maybe someday I'll get to go somewhere more exotic! Although one of my best diving experiences was in Crystal River, when we cam upon a Manatee.

Ooo, you are a lady of hidden depths (pun intended), aren't you? My WM used to scuba dive, we even owned a scuba store for two and a half years (1987-1990).

Beautiful favorite spot. It looks really nice today since it's cold here again.

Have you done any underwater photography?

This could be my favorite place too, if and when I ever make it there. Thanks for sharing your inviting photo of this lovely place.

Wow! How amazing. I have never been scuba diving or to Bonaire. You really know how to live it up and enjoy - and I just think that is so inspiring! Thank you for sharing. xo
