January NewFO Linky Party and Giveaway

2013NewFO
Today's the day to link up your new projects for the January 2013 NewFO Challenge.  I don't know about you, but I've had a busy month!  I had several starts, and I even finished one.  The project I especially wanted to start this month was the Intel Underneath quilt for my son.  I was able to make all of the blocks for this quilt.  Now I just need to sew them together and decide how I want to configure the borders.

Also, I completed a doll quilt for the January Doll Quilt Swap.

 Doll Quilters

The theme for January was "Snow" and this is the quilt I sent off to my partner.  I call this quilt "Sled Ready".

Then, I decided to participate in this year's Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

http://superscrappy.blogspot.com

I'm making blocks from the "Little Red Dresses" pattern by Barbara Weiland Talbert.  This month's color was pink, and here's the first block for this quilt:

And finally, this is my son Matthew's lucky month because I started two quilts for him.  (I kind of like him, so what the heck.)  This is a wall hanging that I've decided to call "Perfect Harmony" in celebration of the way life is treating him since he moved back to Portland.  This is from the Acoustic Montage pattern by Maureen Erhardt.  I bought this pattern years ago with Matthew in mind, but I'm only just now getting around to making it.  It still needs quilting and binding.

So, I basically went hog wild (emphasis on the hog) in my sewing room with January starts.  But you only need one start and zero finishes to link up below.  Everyone who links up is eligible to win this month's needle nanny.  Here's the little cutie I'm giving away this month:

And if you don't know what a needle nanny is, it's a little gizmo with a strong magnet that you can fasten to your stitcheries, or your clothing, or whatever!  I stick my needle to it whenever I finish my embroidery for the morning, and that needle will not get lost no matter how much it tries to get away.  Proceeds from their sale go to a good cause.  They are handmade from copper, brass and nickel in a small village in Thailand, where proceeds contribute to the health, education, and welfare of the community.

Here's what you need to do to be entered in the giveaway:

1.  Please link-up with your newly started projects from January, finished or not.  If you feel like it, show us the progress you've made on any other previously posted NewFO projects.

2.  Please link back to this post from your blog.  Also, please link to your blog post, not your blog.  To do that, just click on the title of your post to isolate it from the rest of your blog.  Then copy the URL and use that to link up.  Folks who are clicking on your link want to see your NewFO's, but they don't want to go hunting for the right post.  Links to blogs will be edited or deleted entirely.  Also, this is not a place to link to your Etsy shop or some other event.  Inappropriate or unrelated links will be deleted.

3.  Finally, don't have a blog?  Upload an image to my FlickR group and link to that.  If you have questions about how to do that or about how to link up, please email me.  If you're having trouble posting your image, email it to me as an attachment, and I'll be happy to do it for you.

4.  Obviously, I need some way to contact you no matter how you link up.  No email address and no other way to contact you equals no entry in the giveaway.  Email me separately if you need to.

This giveaway ends one week from today.  Winner of the needle nanny will be announced on February 7, 2013!  I will ship internationally, and so this giveaway is open to all residents of the Milky Way Galaxy.

Now, show us your new stuff!

I messed up with the linky. This is the url that is suppose to be linked up to the linky. http://kathysnest32.wordpress.com/2013/01/31/jan-31-2013-fo-challenge/

I am hoping that you can correct it. Sorry.
I would like to know where you buy the magnets. They are so sweet. XX Kathleen

Thanks for hosting this challenge!
It's interesting to visit new blogs and see what they all are up to.

You did have a productive January! I love your scrappy "Little Red Dresses" block.

Thanks for hosting the challenge again in 2013. I didn't have a lot of finishes last year, but one flimsy is at the quilters and another needs only 2 more blocks before I can sew it together. So I'm hopeful that 2013 will also be a year of finishes.

Because I set my rule to finish two quilting projects (and didn't) before I could start a new one, I can't join in this month! :-(
Hopefully February will see a new project started (and finished) because by then I will have finished that second quilt!

Great month you have had with lots of starts, and I know you will be full of finishes next month. I really like owning up to what I did or did not do during the month. I get a chance to figure out if I was productive or just played a lot!

Thanks for hosting this challenge! So much more fun than those annoying UFO challenges, which could be equated with eating all the turnip on your plate before you can have dessert!

Lots of wonderful pieces started and finished and still love the guitar quilt. My daughter is moving back in, so now I need to clean out my room and find places for everything, which there isn't, lol.

This is my first time doing something like this so I hope it worked!!!!

Hi all! I started something new this month and it was totally without a plan or even a glimmer. All I knew was that I loved the fabric (and the fabric is so not ME!)

I had picked up 9 FQs of Sakura Park. I threw in a metre of some pink grunge and just jumped in. I ended up making 9 patches. My link takes you to my earlier pics, I have since completed the main portion of my top and need to go shopping for border fabric. Yay!

This quilt has no purpose, no home, and as I said, is not me, but I was compelled to start it. It's just so pretty. I can't wait to find out who this quilt is being made for!

Hi Barb, I just linked up to your Mr. Linky for the Jan. FO, but I'm not sure it went through. Thanks for hosting this. I've got my list started for at least 6 months of new projects.

What a productive month! It's fun to see how much was accomplished by sharing at your Linky Party at the end of the month you're hosting. Thanks!

I love your guitar wall hanging. I can think of several people who would appreciate that. Very cool!

As usual you got a lot done, but where's the embroidery? I really love the little snow quilt, just like you are attracted to laundry lines, I have a thing for houses.

Busy day, finally got my link up. Now I'm going to check out everyone else's links. Cute little needle nanny - I love snowmen, and cats ;) and quilts, and this 'traditional style lover' is more than remarkable drawn to your Acoustic Montage...my guys would like that I think.

It's cold in Minnesota, 25 below windchill today, so all I want to do is eat and sew. Thanks for hosting the FO party again this year. It keeps me motivated. I love everyone's projects.

Love your Acoustic quilt, Barbara. I am trying to show the linky party on my post but Blogger will not cooperate. Will have to try later.

Thanks for sponsoring the opportunity to start new projects without guilt! Posting it here means it's not only acceptable, it's a good thing!

Well, I am thinking that I did the linky thing right. I hope so, anyway! Now I am going to check out what the rest of you started this month!

My NewFOs are 3 small finished projects. I'm going to explain them in another post. Best part is they are finished!

Well I had to read the cat on the roof story too! Oh my...

I love "sled ready." Pine trees, a new use for my favorite "flying geese."

I couldn't upload my photo; I guess because I am using a different computer. I'd thought having it on my blog would be enough. Oh well, I'll be home next month, no doubt starting something new because starting is so much more fun than finishing.

Your Acoustic Montage quilt for your son is just terrific. The pink dresses came out really great! Thank you for hosting this party! So nice to have support for making something NEW!

I love the Litte Red Dresses pattern and was wondering if you know where I could get it from. I googled, but unfortunately cannot find any information about it, as to where to buy it. Was it published in a book?
Would be great if you could help me with any additional information! :)
