2013 NewFO Challenge

If you're like me, you haven't been quilting long enough to accumulate a big pile of UFO's.  Either that, or you're endowed with a healthy serving of self-discipline.  (And, honestly, where's the fun in that?) In either case, you're left out of the annual Blog Land UFO challenges.  Well (sniff), not one to be left out, I started up a NewFO Challenge to give you an opportunity to build up your supply of UFO's!  What could make a quilter any happier than that?  Just consider for a moment the state of bliss you'll achieve at all the new fabric you'll have an excuse to buy.  (And I'm all about using excuses to achieve a state of bliss.)

Here's what you need to do:  Each month, start up at least one new quilt project.  The quilt can be of any size from potholders or mug rugs to king-sized bed quilts.  You do NOT need to complete any project during the year.  All you need to do to participate is start something new during any given month.  On the last day of the month, write a blog post about your new project and link up to my linky party.  As the year progresses, please update us on your previous months' NewFO projects.  If you don't have a blog, not to worry!  Just post pictures of your work on my FlickR Group or any other image-sharing website, copy the URL, and use that to link-up.

Here's what I will do:  I'll host a linky party on the last day of each month.  You'll have a full week to link-up and then I'll hold a small giveaway for those who have participated.  Winner will be chosen at random.  No need to leave a comment or jump through any other hoops.  Just link-up at the linky party, provide me with a valid email address, and you will be entered to win a Needle Nanny.

A new Needle Nanny will be given away each month.  Come on and join in!

  14. Ok Barb. I resisted in 2012 because I am one that has a gazillion UFOs and want to shorten that list. Guess what, I only finished 1 UFO this year, but started at least 4 or 5 new ones, so I guess this is testament I should join your fun. Will add your button to my blog as soon as I can figure it out. Thanks.

  15. It's so easy for me to "start" new projects. I have been quilting since I was a teenager (all by hand back then), so I have tons of UFO's too. I love starting new projects, it's the finishing of them that I have to push myself to get it done.

  34. I've run across your blog and UFO or shall I say NewFO Challenge. So you won't be calling a number each month from a list that we've created for the year? I'm one of the second category of quilters who has been quilting since 1999 and has very few UFOs. My challenges are patterns I've collected that I want to make. I have a list for 2013 so I'll be figuring out how your system could work for me. Everyone needs a goal! Sandi www.kwiltnkats.blogspot.com

  43. What a great idea! I'm actually pretty good about finishing projects, but I'm also always game to start some new ones. Life would get rather boring very quickly if there weren't new projects to pursue. Count me in!

  44. Sometimes I get overwhelmed at where to go with a "new" project. I did get a couple done last year. I'll add the button to my blog and try again! Got an idea working for January already...

  45. This is a breeze!.. I do well at starting projects, Heck I have started a new one in January, an Alphabet Quilt for my 17mt granddaughter, finishing them is my problem. SO.... this is the challenge for me to participate in!!
