First Snow

The first snow of the season began falling this morning.  It's been snowing for hours and we now have about two inches of accumulation.

I tried to convince Smitty of the many benefits of being a cat who likes the snow.  He remains unconvinced.

He had only one thing to say about it:  I do not like it, Sam I Am.

When it's snowing on a Saturday morning, there is only one thing to do:  make Spanish coffees.  This is actually Mike's tradition.

He does it up right too, including lighting the rum on fire to warm up the cup.

And they do warm up one's innards on a cold morning.

Here's the recipe he uses:

Spanish Coffee

Makes One Spanish Coffee beverage

1/2 ounce 151 Rum
1/2 ounce Triple Sec
1 ounce Kahlua
Dash Nutmeg
Dash Cinnamon
Hot Brewed Coffee
Whipped Cream

Rim coffee glass with cinnamon and sugar.  Add 151 rum and ignite.
Sprinkle nutmeg and cinnamon for effect and let heat for 10-20 seconds.
The heat will caramelize the sugar rim.  Keep it lit while adding the
Triple Sec, Kahlua and coffee.  Extinguish with whipped cream and garnish
with cinnamon.

Comfy with my Spanish Coffee, I completed the "potting shed" stitchery for "A Gardner's Journal" quilt.

And moved on to the "potted plants".

When that one's finished, I'll just need to stitch the weather vane, a small stitchery, and then I'll be ready to piece together the first section of the quilt.  I'm curious to see how my blue and aqua color scheme is going to look.

But that will need to wait for another day.  For now, I'm going to hit the shower, and then put a meatball stew into my slow cooker.  It seems a good day for something warm to stick to one's ribs.  Once that's going, I'm going to try to finish Smitty's Christmas stocking.  I think I have the hardest part of it already done.

What's on your agenda for Saturday?  Oh yes, and don't forget!

The linky party for the 2013 NewFO Challenge goes live on Monday.  Be ready to post your 2013 NewFO wish list for a chance to win this 7-fat quarter bundle of "Delight" by Jackie Shapiro for Windham Fabrics..

And I just noticed that I'm two new followers shy of 800 followers.  If I can pick up another two followers, I just might sweeten the pot with another prize.

It's snowing here too today... love your stitching projects! I would never think to use fabric like that for background, it really adds to your scenes.

I wouldn't mind some snow, but we will probably get snow and rain tomorrow and a big mess, lol. Lots of wonderful projects, you do keep busy.

Wow! You guys got lots of snow we only had snow mixed with rain here in Beaverton. Guess I will have to console myself with Spanish coffee. I will have to see if I have all the ingredients it looks delicious.

Your snow is on its way to Minn. We're getting rain which is dissolving last weekend's snow. It's going to be a big slippery mess, I think. The Spanish Coffee looks wicked but I'd love to try it. I'm working on my FO list for 2013.

Your Spanish Coffee reminds me of the Mexican Coffee that we get at our favourite restaurant whenever we go to Gran Canary. Including lighting up the Rum. It certainly is a perky way to start the day :-)

I'll have to see if My Guy will make the Spanish coffee (he's the coffee wizard in this house). It looks really fun to make.

No snow here, just rain. But as dry as it has been, we'll take anything we can get.

I don't think you're going to convince Smitty that snow is fun....I'm like him...stay inside and be cozy! Your stitchery is wonderful and that Spanish Coffee.....looks yummy, that is something I definitely want to try, thanks for the recipe!
