December Folk Art Cat Complete

Click here for the 2013 NewFO Challenge Linky Party and Giveaway.

As a reminder, tomorrow (Sunday) is the last day to link up to the Linky Party and Giveaway.  Of course, anyone can join in the NewFO Challenge at any time during any month of 2013.  You don't have to link up now to play.  But if you want to win any of those giveaway fabrics, now's the time!

At last, I was able to get back to the sewing room today.  I wouldn't say I've been so busy over the past couple of weeks, although I have done a lot of baking.  Nevertheless, the month has felt hectic, I think, because I'm not into my routine.  I doubt that will change until after Christmas.  Sadly, it doesn't look as if Matthew is going to make it back from Klamath Falls in time for our Christmas Eve festivities and our prime rib dinner.  He's had to reschedule his U-Haul truck a couple of times because of snow.  He told me this morning that he can't even get out of his driveway, let alone negotiate the mountain passes he will need to in order to get his belongings back to Portland.  And now, all of his things are packed up, so he's kind of in a pickle down there.  I told him just to be safe.  That's all that matters right now.  His job doesn't start until January 21, and so he still has some time.  I know he wants to be at home though, and so I find myself wishing there was something I could do to help.

Instead, I spent the day finishing up the December cat block.

With him finished, I have the three cats in the bottom row of the quilt complete.

The remaining cats in the quilt seem to be less theme-oriented for their respective months.  It looks as if the January cat (top row on the left) has a stocking cap on his tail, but otherwise, I don't see any indication that he's intended to be January specific.  Likewise, the cat to his right seems to have nothing to do with February.

With that in mind, it probably doesn't matter whether I finish exactly one cat per month from here on.  I'm finding myself re-evaluating my works in progress because I have several quilt tops that need to be sewn together and two that need quilting.  (And when those other tops are sewn together, they too will need quilting.)  It's starting to feel as if completing a block per month on each and every quilt is an unrealistic goal, and so I'm thinking about just listing them from A-Z and working my way through the list and back again.

Now, I imagine some of you are going to be chuckling given that I have a whole new to-do list for the 2013 NewFO Challenge.  Just know that I'm plugging my ears and saying, Neh, neh, neh, I can't hear you, I can't hear you, I can't hear you!!!  I'm so glad we're able to discuss this like mature adults.

Baahahaa!!! Actually, what first went through my mind was that line you wrote in your 2013 NewFO Challenge post, "If you're like me, you haven't been quilting long enough to accumulate a big pile of UFO's." My friend, keep it up and you'll be right there! LOL! (Really glad you can't reach me from there!) :)

They are not UFO's, just a heap of projects that you have on the go at the same time because you get bored working on just one thing. Well that's the story I keep telling myself anyway.
Love the December cat.

Love the December cat! I will admit that he scared me at first...then I realized it was back then his eyes weren't quite done yet.... It's going to be a wonderful wall quilt when it's done.

My list is just as ridiculous I assure you! I have so many UFO's and still I joined the NewFO Challenge... because starting new projects is FUN! Can't wait to start my kitties!

So sorry to hear your son won't be able to be there for Christmas! But once he gets there he will be closer for a long time :*) I know you will find ways to feel close even though he is not there.

Maybe you can tweak the pattern and add some things to make them month-specific? Hmmm....I can hear that mature adult mind working on that. LOL
Hope that even if your boy can't make it for the big clambake, that he is safe and gets there soon. Christmas miracles can happen - just ask me! :)

The cat is great! Now you can join UFO groups, just like the big girl quilters. LOL Yeah, mature.
