This is my #12 Challenge for the 2012 Free Motion Quilting Challenge organized by SewCalGal. This month's tutorial was by Patsy Thompson, and it was excellent as usual. This has been a valuable exercise, and I, for one, have really learned a lot over the year. The tutorials are all stored a notebook now. It's a valuable reference I've already used when I've tried to dip into my shallow knowledge base a time or two.
The December challenge was all about borders. Here's what I ended up with:
My feathers rambled off in all directions a couple of times, and for some reason, I ended up with an extra border around the outside. I decided to fill it in with paw prints, a cat, and a mouse. Do you see them? It's not great, but it's not bad either. Like any new skill, it just takes practice and patience.
And here are the twelve challenges I completed. I think I completed every month except for one, and I filled that in with a bonus challenge. I've already used Leah Day's Double Stippling technique and Wendy Sheppard's Jester's Hat in a couple of my doll quilts.
It's been a full year of challenges, and I have appreciated the hard work of so many people. Thanks to SewCalGal for all her effort organizing the challenge this year.

Barbara, your paw prints to cat to mousie are all darling!! Great job on your FMQ finish!!! :)
Great job! Of course, the cat motifs in the outer border makes it perfect! I'm copying the tutorials so I can work on them this year.
Aww, you're such a softie, letting Smitty walk all over your quilt sample! Great border design - he definitely shows promise in the artistic department - and at such a young age! Great job!
The kitties/paw prints are awesome!! Such variety....will be much used in the future, I am sure!! Well done!
Congrats on all your FMQ work! Your borders look terrific. :D

I think the cat/mouse/pawprints are very clever.
