2013 NewFO Challenge Linky Party and Giveaway

Are you ready to start the new year with a whole new list of projects?  Now's your chance to think about it. The 2012 NewFO Challenge proved to be very popular and fun, and so we're continuing it into 2013 (because one can never have too many UFO's, right?).  You've stumbled into the Zone of Permission to start as many projects as you like with no requirement that you finish any of them EVER!  To learn more about the NewFO Challenge, click right here.  (There are prizes!)

So today's linky party is to share some or all of the projects on your wish to-do list.  (Did you get how I combined wish list and to-do list all in one "wish to-do list"?  Oh my gosh.  I just can't get over how clever and creative I am sometimes!)

Okay, onward.  I'm going to post my wish to-do list for the year, but you shouldn't feel obliged to share in as much detail as I have.  I'm just verbose and new projects get me so excited that I just get all quivery all over, and so I'm going into massive detail about mine.  You can link up just by posting one project or all of them, or anywhere in between.

So here goes:

January:  A PC (printed circuit) Board quilt for my son Matthew, to celebrate his first engineering job post becoming so smart with his college edge-ee-cation.  His quilt will be from the Taking Turns block by Monica Soloria-Snow.  I'd share the block pattern with you, but it is copyrighted.  The finished quilt will look something like this, except my fabrics are completely different:

The blocks end up at 18 inches, and so I'll be able to make a large bed-sized quilt with a minimum of blocks.  I like this also because it uses large swatches of fabric, and this printed circuit board fabric needs lots of room to show off its stuff.  I'll be pairing it up with a gray, a green, and a black.

February:  In my quest to do more holiday-related quilts (and more small quilts and tablerunners), I'd like to make this "Heart of the Home" tablerunner that was in the January/February 2013 issue of McCall's Quilting:

And if I get that one finished, I'd also like to start this project that has been languishing on my to-do list for ages.  It's called "Puzzle Hearts" and appeared in the February 2011 issue of Quilter's World:

March:  "Jackie's Clothesline" from a pattern by Zebra.  Is this cute, or what?

It's a small doll quilt sized quilt, and it will be perfect to cover up an ugly electrical access panel in my laundry room.  I fell in love with it the minute I saw it.

April:  A Hobo Quilt from the book by Debra G. Henninger.  I really like theme quilts, and I'll choose my favorite blocks from the book and just keep making them until the quilt is the size I want it.

May:  Quiltmaker's Garden.  Did you see the series that came out in five parts in Quiltmaker last year?  I collected all the patterns over the year this year, and I'd like to start on this one next year.

June:  Forest Giant.  This quilt is another that's been on my to-do list for ages.  It was published in the October, 2006 issue of Quilter's World (which actually was before I started quilting!).  I really like this quilt, and it's fitting for the Pacific Northwest.

July:  Strawberry Time tablerunner.  This tablerunner pattern was published in the April/May 2011 issue of The Quilter magazine.  Obviously, it's been on my list for a long time.

I have the cutest black polka dots on red background fabric to use for the strawberries!

August:  One of the wall quilts from Lynette Anderson's charming book, "It's Quilting Cats & Dogs".  Do I have to pick just one?  I'm having a hard time deciding.

September:  I'm going to take another stab at the Pony Express quilt.  I got mad when I started it last year and booted it out of my sewing room.  It takes a special ruler and a special technique to go with the ruler.  I didn't realize that when I bought the pattern.  I've figured some work-arounds, and so I'm giving it another try next year.  It's a cool quilt, and I like quilts that commemorate something.  The history of the Pony Express included with the pattern is fascinating.

October:  Another holiday themed tablerunner.  I've had the fabric and pattern for this for at least two years. This is the Corn Flowers pattern by Sticks and Broomstraws.  See how the flower petals are candy corn?  My favorite Halloween candy.

November:  Little Red Dresses.  I've had this one for a long time too.  The pattern was free from the FabShopHop.  (Updated to say that the pattern is no longer available on the FabShopHop website, but I have it.  Since it was given away free, I think it is fair for me to share it with anyone who would like it.  Just email me, and I will send it to you.)  The pattern was designed by Barbara Weiland Talbert.  Cute, huh?  No reason.  I just like it.

I might decide to do it in blue since I have so many blue scraps.

December:  Raining Cats & Dogs by Bunny Hill Designs.  I saw this quilt made up when I attended the International Quilt Festival in Ireland.  It was adorable, and I fell in love with it.

So that's my 2013 mapped out.  I've been known to change my mind as time passes and substitute in some different quilt, but that's my plan for now.  And don't feel you need to stick with the plan you lay out for yourself now.  You can change your mind at any time.  Believe me.  No one will be tracking you!

Now, PLEASE!  Don't let my list intimidate you.  You may link up with just one project you'd like to start in 2013.  Or, if the idea of starting a whole year's worth of projects excites you so much that you can't help but let loose, then by all means, LET LOOSE!

But you didn't think I was going to make you do all that for nothing, did you?  As an added incentive, everyone who links up will be eligible to win this bundle of fat quarters.  This is a 7-quarter bundle of "Delight" by Jackie Shapiro for Windham Fabrics.

But that's not all.  No way.  That's not all.  In celebration of gaining 800 followers, a second winner will win this 5 fat quarter bundle of Cuzco by Kate Spain for Moda Fabrics:

Pretty, huh?  So here's what you need to do to win:

1.  Everyone who links up is eligible to win.  This giveaway is open to all residents of Planet Earth.  Link up using Mr. Linky below.  Please link to your blog post, not to your blog.  Links to blogs will be edited or deleted entirely.  Also, please do not link to Etsy sites or to posts promoting other events.  Links to such posts will be deleted.  (Sorry to have to say this, but some folks just seem to have very bad manners.)

If you don't have a blog, you can link up by posting an image of any quilt you'd like to make in 2013 to my FlickR group.  Use the URL to your image to link up below.  If you're having trouble, email your image to me as an attachment, and I'll link up for you.  You don't need to leave a comment, but comments are always welcome.

2.  If you're a blogger, please link back to this giveaway in your post.

3.  PR Angels can gain a second chance to win by posting the 2013 NewFO Challenge button (code in my right sidebar) to your blog.  Just leave me a comment letting me know.

I'll leave this linky party open for one week and announce the winners on Monday, Christmas Eve!

Now's your chance to show off your wish to-do list:

I love that heart runner from McCalls too, and I'm from Denmark and there we have these kind of hearts on our christmas trees, so it would be cute in red/white and greens!!

Lots of fun stuff on your list. I really like the Corn Flowers tablerunner. I'm considering a pattern similar to The Taking Turns for the OSU quilt.

Thanks for hosting the challenge for another year.

Oh, you've got some great projects lined up! It will be fun watching you get them started. You did an amazing job of sticking to the plan this year. My favorite of your new projects is Puzzle Hearts - really different :*)

Here's my list! Of course I'll change my mind a dozen times throughout the year LOL!!! But I'm hoping I'll stick to the plan a little better this year. We'll see :*)

Thanks for hostessing this fun Challenge again next year. Because I really, really needed 12 more UFO's =^..^= No seriously, it's a fun party and I've had a ball playing along this year!

You have some great ambitions! The quilt I linked up is a small version of what I would like to make. We have a queen size bed with very thick mattresses, I want to make this quilt for my bed but probably in a between queen and king size! Wish me luck!
