MQX West 2012: Second Batch

If you missed my first post about MQX West, you can find it right here.  What follows are more pictures from the quilt show.  But there are lots, lots more.  Keep watching!

This first group were quilts that had a small center panel, approximately 15 x 15, surrounded by borders.  The outer border was wide...maybe 12 inches...and showcased the beautiful quilting that echoed the design from the center panel.  These were very striking quilts, and the quilting was wonderful.

I absolutely loved the quilting on this next one.  I took pictures of all four corners.  It made me wish (as I often do) that I were a better artist.

I'm not sure why I didn't take a picture of the whole quilt on this next one...someone standing in front of it, probably.  But I liked this motif.  It seems like a modern version of feathering, and possibly something I could actually do sometime.

This next quilt won first place in the youths 13-18 division.  There were a lot of dragons, mermaids, and "beneath-the-sea" quilts in this show.  I have looked all over everything trying to figure out if this is in keeping with some show theme, but I can't find anything.  Coincidence maybe?  I doubt it, but it seems as if a theme were at play that it would be easier to figure it out.  In any case, I thought this was great work on the part of a young quilter.

I love the thread work on this next one.  And this was not the winner in the best use of thread category.

The scuba diver in me loved this next one.

Finally (for today), this was my favorite quilt of the whole show.  I love anything Native American, and this quilt was unique among the quilts on display.  The colors are wonderful, and the quilting is superb.  I hope you appreciate it as much as I did.

I'll have more for you tomorrow, so check back.

That Northwest Native American one is my favorite as well. Oh, to be able to work that kind of artistry!

Wow! So much detail in each one. The youth quilt is impressive and all these extra details in the Native American quilt are amazing.
