Last Baskets Complete and Stash Report

Today I finished the last two baskets, and the last blocks, for the Plain and Simple Amish sampler I've been working on since January.  These are the two blocks I finished today:

And here are all seven baskets made this week.

Now the blocks are made for this quilt, and I can begin sewing it together.  The extra fabric I needed has arrived as well, and so I'm ready to get started just as soon as my sewing room is back in action.

While I was making the baskets, I was also baking this Apple-Walnut Bundt Cake.

If you've been following my blog for a while, you might recall my post from over a year ago when I dumped this cake into the sink while getting it out of the pan.  It has taken me a year to recover from the sting of that little mishap, and this is the first time I've tried the "heartbreak cake" since then.  Everything went smoothly today.  We haven't cut into it yet, but it looks and smells good.  You can find the recipe at my old post, along with a tutorial for caramelizing the sugar to make the caramelized apple chunks that go right into the cake batter.  Yum.  I'm looking forward to giving it a taste.

Now about that stash report.  As I said, I had to purchase some solids to finish up my Plain and Simple quilt, so I had quite a bit of yardage in this week.  Once I sew the quilt together and make its back, most of it will go right back out.  I'm not sweating this gush of fabric into the "purchased" column.

Fabric Used:  3/4 yards
Fabric Used in 2012: 118 1/2 yards

Fabric Purchased: 11 yards
Total Fabric Purchased in 2012:  136 3/4 yards

Net Stashed in 2012:  18 1/4 yards

Oh your baskets are beautiful!!! I just love baskets anyway, and these solids really make them sparkle :*)

The cake looks quite delicious - YUM!!! Glad to hear it made it to the platter this time =^..^= My Mom made chocolate chip cake today for my birthday (in a couple weeks), so I added a few pounds to my posterior in the 10 minutes it took me to wolf it down. I believe the world is a better place because cake is in it :*)

The Amish baskets look wonderful together!

Yummy (yet poisonous to me) Bundt cake! I could always leave those out...
I watched Trisha Yearwood's cooking show yesterday & she made a splendid-looking strawberry cake and a chicken salad that I am definitely going to attempt. The chicken salad had grapes in it - so I bought some today.....

The blocks look fantastic. Simple and clean, which I guess is the epitome of Amish design. I am drooling over the cake and the Tupperware base to the cake cover made me smile. Memories.....
