May NewFO Linky Party and Giveaway

NewFO2012

It's that time again.  Can you believe the month of May has flown by already?  Good grief, we're nearly half way through 2012!

What new projects did you start during the month of May?  Remember, no finishes are required in this challenge.  We just want to see what's new in your sewing world.  Anyone who started a new project during the month of May is welcome to link up below, and everyone who links up will be entered in a drawing to win this quilt pin.

This image is just about the actual size.  These are cloth quilt blocks that someone (not me) made by hand.  Someone who obviously has a lot of patience, or else teensy weensy hands.

So I wasn't quite as energetic with my starts for the month.  It's been a busy month with three birthdays, an anniversary, Mother's Day, and getting ready for my trip to Ireland this coming Sunday.  Still, I managed to get started on a flannel quilt I've been wanting to start for a couple of years.  (I love that this challenge is getting me going on projects that have been in the planning stage for so long.)  The quilt was inspired by this pattern from the All People Quilt website.  I've made the quilt before in a different colorway.  This time, I'm going for something a little like this:

My quilt will be a little larger . . . 9 blocks wide by 12 blocks long.  There are spools, pinwheels, and nine-patches mixed in with solid 6 x 6 inch blocks.  Then my plan is to tie it rather than quilt it, as they have done in the original pattern.  I just think tied flannel quilts are so cozy.  I completed two rows so far.  My goal is to complete two rows per month, so it should be finished by the end of the year . . . when it's cold . . . and it will be so cozy to wrap up in come December.  Here's what I have so far:

The colors remind me of the colors in a bag of salt water taffy, and so that's the name I've given it.  For now.  I've been known to change my mind about quilt names, among other things.

As for the other NewFO projects I've started this year, I finished the Winged Dreams quilt I'm making for my friend.  It still needs binding, but I don't need to finish it right away.  I'll finish it sometime this summer for sure since it will go to my friend in September.

Also I finished up the Beaver Fever stadium quilt I was making for Erik and Mae.  I turned it into an easy carry package.  You can find the tutorial for how I did that right here.

And this quilt has taken up residence with Erik and Mae now.  So that's about it for my NewFO's for the month of May.

Now I'm ready to see what you started this month.  Please link-up with your newly started projects, finished or not.  If you feel like it, show us the progress you've made on your other 2012 NewFO projects.  Please link to your blog post, not your blog.  To do that, just click on the title of your post to isolate it from the rest of your blog.  Then copy the URL and use that to link up.  If you have questions about how to do that or about how to link up, please email me.

Since I'm going to be traveling from June 3rd until June 13th, I'm going to leave this linky party open a little longer than I usually would.  You'll have until June 15th to link up, and then I'll announce the winner of the quilt pin after that.  Okay.  I can't wait to see what you've been up to.  Here you go:

Love your Salt Water Taffy and the Winged Dreams. Your Beaver Fever stadium quilt has inspired ideas for my black and orange Oklahoma State fabric. That may end up being a NewFO for June or July.

Thanks for hosting the challenge. Hope your packing and trip prep is going well.

Teensy weensy hands is my guess...wow.

I want to see lots of your photos from Ireland. I'm pretty much a hermit and would like to see a virtual tour.....grin.

Looking forward to seeing your flannel quilt as well.

I had to link up my Design Wall Quilt posting from last Saturday's Bargello with a Twist class/workshop I attended. I had fun quilting with my fellow guild members. It was like a mini 'retreat' Thanks for the NewFO link up.

I really like that stadium quilt, I may have to make one for my daughter the Nole, although I can't imagine her needed a quilt for a football game, she could always sit on it.
