Design Wall Monday, March 12, 2012

Last week I didn't post to any of my weekly link-ups, including Design Wall Monday, and so I have two weeks of projects to show you.  The most momentous finish of the week was completely finishing all the parts of the Checkerboard Flowers quilt and shipping it off to Ireland for the 2012 International Quilt Festival of Ireland.  The quilt has been finished for some time, but I needed to add a hanging sleeve and a label.

I am so excited about my upcoming trip, and even more so now that I will have a quilt in the show.  It's my first time entering a quilt in any show.  Might as well start off with a bang, right?  Thank you to all my bloggy friends who encouraged me to do this.

Yesterday, I started on my March NewFO project, a quilt called Winged Dreams that I'm making for my walking buddy, Sue.  This is a great quilt pattern I found on the Clothworks Textiles website.  If you need a quilt in a hurry, this is one you could complete in two days if you needed to.  It is a generous lap-sized quilt at 58 x 58.  You easily could make it larger by adding more or wider borders.

It still needs borders, quilting and binding.  These are the fabrics I'm using for the borders and the binding.

I want to have this one finished for Sue's September birthday.  Sue doesn't read my blog, and so I can talk about her without her knowing.  In fact, I could say anything I want.  For example, I could tell you that Sue eats banana splits made with jalapeno peppers instead of bananas--for breakfast--and she would never know the difference.  But I won't say that.  It's not nice to gossip about people.

My swap blocks, blocks of the month, bee blocks, and sew alongs are pretty much up to date.  I completed the most recent block for the Blogger's BOM--the one in the upper right of this image:

I remade last month's block for the We Bee Learning block bee because I totally used the wrong fabrics the first time around.  And I made the March block for this bee too.

There is a lot of color on my design wall this week.  Here's the block I made for my partner in the Block Swap Adventure:

Also, I made my first block for the Block Lotto this month.  I joined the Block Lotto a long time ago, and then never made a single block.  Eventually, I lost my "author" privileges on the blog.  Sophie was kind enough to let me rejoin, and this time, I did my part with this scrappy triangle block.

On the doll quilt front, I finished quilting and binding the "Castles in the Air" doll quilt I was making for my friend Lisa's granddaughter, and I finished piecing the top for another of her granddaughters, whose name is Irish.

Finally, I completed the seventh of nine Mr. Bear Blocks and then moved onto the next set of blocks for the Amish Sampler.  The latest blocks are referred to in the pattern as "Nine Patch on Point."

So . . . lots of blocks.  Not posting for two weeks can make one look like Sewper Woman.

My goals for this week are to finish the Oregon State quilt top I'm making for Erik and Mae.  That's another one I'd like to have completed by September for the start of football season.  Also, I booted some projects off my to-do list because they were misbehaving.  (I have a zero tolerance policy.)  I mention this because it gives me room on my list to catch up on the Hello Sun BOM over at April Mae Designs.  I kind of wanted to do this one all along.  It's so cute, and I can easily catch up.  And then I want to quilt the swap quilt I've been making.  It's been finished for months, and I need to get it quilted and sent off to my swap partner.
