Doll Quilt Progress

This afternoon, I got a good way into the doll quilt I'm making for my friend's granddaughter, Camlyn.

The quilt is now 21 inches square.  It will have another border with pieced crowns in each corner.  I expect it to end up about 27 inches square.  Just now I was figuring out how big I would need the crowns to be, and I think I have the math right.  It took me quite a bit of doodling and figuring to get the checked border right.  As it was, I ended up with extra two patches and I'm not sure why.  I'm sure it's something I don't know about constructing such a thing.  But all's well that ends well, I always say.  The dark and light patches matched up correctly, and so I'm feeling pretty smart for getting it right . . . even if I did end up with extras.

My sewing room is in the basement of our house.  While it was a dry day today, it was pretty chilly, and the basement is always the coolest part of the house.  I turned on our gas fireplace to warm it up.  Gracie, the heat-seeking cat, took up residence directly in front of the vents.  When I felt her, she was so toasty warm on her back that I'm surprised she hadn't yet reached her flashpoint and burst into flames.

My day started unpleasantly enough.  Actually, it was more unpleasant for George.  (Warning:  high gack factor ahead.)  Last night he horked up something that looked suspiciously like angel hair spaghetti.  Yes,  roundworms.  Aaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!  (Supply your own visual of me wretching with disgust here.)

So he and I headed out to the vet at the first available opportunity.  That was easy enough.  She gave him some medicine and sent us home with an extra dose for George and two doses for Gracie.  George is used to having medicine shoved down his throat because he has to take a steroid for his autoimmune skin problem.  Gracie, on the other hand, has no idea what is in store for her.  Mike and I will take on that little project when he gets home.  Those of you who own cats know what a humbling experience it can be trying to dose a cat with necessary medicine.

Oh that is SO true!!! I always dread giving the kitties any type of meds. Glad that's all that was wrong and they will soon be on the mend =^..^=

Glad that I read your post after dinner and that I went for the pizza, not the spagetti! Hope both Charlie and Gracie are better soon (and that you or Mike are not headed to the ER as a consequence).

Love the castle quilt. Crowns in the borders are going to be so cute.

You are so funny. I can relate to the cat story. I felt so bad when I had to give my kitties medicine. I saw betrayal in their eyes. But, after a forbidden tuna treat, they forgave me.

My old bosses wife would bring her cat to the shop so there would be three of us trying to hold and dose. What a fiasco.

Poor George and Gracie. I remember the horrors of giving my sweet kitty medicine. We have a summer house 3 hours away. As she got older, she developed motion sickness. The vet gave us a plastic plunger to use with the pills. It wasn't going to happen. Luckily, I found a good cat sitter. Poor baby, she loved the summer house, it was the travel that gave her fits.

Sweet little quilt. Ooooh yes, kitties love the warm. Our late-Fanner loved to go out and find a hot sunny spot on the concrete. We gave her 2 different meds, twice a day orally but she was very good about taking them. When we had to put her down last month, I was relieved to think we wouldn't have to do that anymore. But it seems the kittens we acquired (actually both) likely have Feline Herpes Virus (FHV) and Raven was sneezing quite a bit so the vet put them both on 2 wks of a medicine given just once/day orally. Raven's getting better at accepting it, but Flame pretty much clenches her mouth closed. I'm glad they're kittens and not full-grown or I'd definitely be looking like the guy in the cartoon ;)

The pink castle is looking great! I hope you're having fun with it too. ;^)
In the winter, zzyzx used to lay right on top of the heater vent in the bathroom, stealing all the heat! I used to worry that her collar & tags would burn her...but she never seemed to mind.
