Guest Blogging at !Sew We Quilt! and Giveaway

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.

Greetings!  Madame Samm is doing a month-long segment about can't-sew-without-it tools.  Today, I'm guest blogging over at !Sew We Quilt! with a tutorial about the CutRite Bind Up tool.

Check it out, and then come back and enter my giveaway to win one for your very own sewing room.  It's a miracle tool that will help you to end your quilt bindings with a perfectly mitred seam.  Don't believe it?  Well, prepare to join the ranks of Binding Believers.  (For you, lifetime membership is absolutely free!)

I'll just wait right here while you check out my tutorial.  (Cue Final Jeopardy music.)

So what do you need to do to win your own CutRite Bind Up Tool?  Very simple.  First of all, I want to thank Mark at Quilter's Paradise who was generous enough to sponsor this giveaway.  To enter do one of the following:

This one is mandatory:

1.  Visit the Quilter's Paradise website and take a look at the products they offer.  Be sure to spend some time looking at the many useful laser-cut kits and acrylic templates and rulers that they manufacture on site.  Don't miss the free-to-use quilt calculators, favorite links, and free patterns.  Then come back and leave a comment telling me something that caught your eye there and how it would help you in your sewing.  Please be specific.

You can gain optional extra entries by doing any or all of the following:

2.  Sign up for the Quilter's Paradise Newsletter, then come back and tell me that you did for one extra entry.

3.  Be a follower of my blog and leave a comment telling me that you are.

4.  Post any one of my buttons on your own blog and leave a comment telling me that you did.

I'll leave this giveaway open until Sunday, January 15, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time).  Then I'll chose a number at random and announce the winner on my blog.  Winner will be notified via email, so be sure to leave me a valid email address.  You'll have three days to respond, and then I'll choose another winner.

Good luck!

Great tute at Sew We Quilt!
I checked out their website, and there were a few things I'd like to have (besides the binding tool). One is that wearable mini LED light. I sure could have used that a few weeks ago when I was trying to file when the power was out!!! And the price is very nice too. I also sent the URL for the longarm accessories to my friend who recently bought one. :D

First, great tutorial. That little gadget is now on my list to get. Some people are so smart to think these things up for us. The thread stem is also a genius idea. Sew simple too! I also like the imagicut duets. Lots of nice choices.

Good Golly - have you ANY idea how long we struggled to calculate the border fabric requirements for a Cali King the other day? And there's a calculator that did it in SECONDS! All I had to do was plug in the border measurements! EASY-PEASY!

And I'd LOVE to have that binding tool - I usually struggle with that, do a dry-fit, sew, then usually reverse-sew & redo! Don't see it could get any easier than what you've shown! Thanks for the giveaway!

I would be very interested in the mini LED light. I have never seen one of these. I do a lot of hand sewing and cross stitch in the evenings and my eyes need a boost of light most of the time. This seems to be a really great idea for adding a little extra light focused right on the stitching. Thanks for the giveaway.

Thank you so much for the informative post this morning. I had not seen that tool yet but, it's sure something I can use.

There are a number of great tools at Quilter's Paradise that I now can say I'd love to have after checking their site.

There was one however, that really caught my eye. The Thread Stem looks awesome. My machine never used to have problems using metallic threads for my machine embroidery and then all of a sudden, it's decided it doesn't like them at all. I have tried everything except one thing. Well, actually I DID try it but had to return it. There is a multiple spool thread stand that hooks onto my Viking Designer I sewing machine and it worked really well BUT, I always had to empty every spool off that stand each night or anytime I was not sitting at my machine which really defeated the purpose of having a multiple spool stand. You see, my beautiful Ragdoll kitty was thrilled to see what he felt was a new multiple thread toy for him to play with. No matter how much I tried to explain to him that it was NOT for him, he totally ignored me as cats seems to do so well. I know the dangers of cats and thread after losing my kitty as a teen after she ate my Mom's thread from her machine. Because of that, I had to take it down and return it. BUT, one secret that many swear by when having trouble with metallic threads is to put it onto the table below or in a jar next to your machine but then it bounces all over. The "Thread Stem" looks like it would be awesome to have to help guide thread in the right direction more accurately than to just set the spool on the table.

What a great place. I found lots of things that would be helpful to me. Two in particular jumped out:

(1) Press Pal Ironing Board - I have very limited space where I sew and often find myself running into another room to press because it's the only place I had available to open up my board. This small board would be wonderful to have right next to my machine. Would definitely make my life easier.

(2) Toni Whitney Laser Cut Kits - I'm currently working on one of her many horse patterns and cutting all of those pieces by hand is taking forever. My niece is patiently waiting for her beautiful wall hanging. Would love to do another to go along with this one, but oh, the cutting .. lol Love the idea of just opening up the package and having everything ready to be fused into place.

loved your tut at Samm's! this is the part I detest the most when making a quilt. somehow I get the ends twisted no matter what I do. Then when I finally get it, I write down my directions which then become totally useless the next time I try to follow them. they make absolutely NO sense! so, yeah, I'd love to win this tool!

lots of good stuff over at Quilter's paradise! The custom rulers are adorable! what a great gift for guild members!!

Laura said...

I joined a guild to learn to quilt but so far have only made quilt tops. One of my goals for this year is to finish these projects. So your tutorial about binding and the nifty tool for doing it correctly is timely for me. I visited the Quilters Paradise website and would love to get the nine patch ruler. I just spent the last two days using up my scraps to make 35 of the 60 nine patch blocks I need for a new quilt top. Thanks for the great tips. I'm also a cat lover and find your kitty details endearing.

I'm going to do my best to consolidate this into one message. Otherwise I have to keep scrolling up to see what else I need to do to have my best chance of entering. I did the tutorial um 3 times. Once in the e-mail since I'm already signed up for your blogs, then again when I got here, and a third time at Sew We Quilt. Then I got lost over at Quilter's Paradise. Wow, this is a company that loves quilters. I guess the place I stayed the most was the notions page since every quilter needs notions. But I was in awe of all the wonderful templates and cutting mats. I can pick a size that I want and even have certain ones etched with what ever I want on it. You can even decide if you want a hole or not and where you want it. I prefer no holes. The prices are great. Been putting off buying a new cutting mat but I found the place to buy it now. Took me a while to find where to sign up for their newsletter but I finally scrolled up and just used your link. Wish I could post your button on my blog but I don't have a blog and am amazed at you and others that do. Talk about Brightening my day. this was it :)

I don't really understand buttons -can you explain them to me? I'm so new to this - the buttons are so cute and I love them but don't understand what they are for.
Thank you,

I love the look of the CutRiteTM Square-Up Template Set; would be very useful for getting squares of various sizes for my quilting
sable at xtra.co.nz

There are a lot of useful notions, but on top of my list is CutRite Bind up. If I'm not the lucky winner of your giveaway I'll have to buy it. Guess a few other things will be in the "shopingbag" too.

Love the 9-patch ruler and the way they will custom etch the measuring tools! Thanks for a chance to win the miter tool!

I'd love a Gypsy Gripper for my rulers. Would help so much, I think, to keep a steady hand when using my rotary cutter.
