Design Wall Monday--January 2, 2012

My first design wall of 2012!  I didn't do a whole lot of sewing this week, but I have a few things to show off.  But first, I want to thank Marj over at Eclectic Quilter, who signed up to be my 400th follower!  What a nice way to start the new year.  Thank you Marj.  And my undying gratitude to all of those who came before.  You are the best group of followers EVER!

So what did I sew this past week?  First, I completed a swap block for my partner in the Block Swap Adventure.  My partner requested one of three blocks.  This one is called "Wagon Tracks".  Since making this block, I think I saw it called "Jacob's Ladder" as well.  Does this block, in fact, have more than one name?  Does anybody know?

Then, I made the top of a doll quilt for a friend's granddaughter, Elyce.  I still need to quilt and bind this one, but I think I know how to quilt it now.  That's half the battle where quilting is concerned, in my humble opinion.

I've written a blog post about how I chose these colors and how the design came about.  If you're interested in knowing more about this quilt, you can find more information here.

And I made this month's block for the Blogger's BOM.  I'm really loving how this is turning out so far.

These are all the blocks I've made so far.

I put the sashing on the fourth block for A Day in the Life of Mr. Bear

which will eventually be sewn on the upper left side of this middle row of blocks.

And this one will be placed above the center block.  So far, I've only drawn out the design so that it's ready to be embroidered.

Finally, I started my doll quilt for the January Doll Quilt Swap on the Quilting Board.  The theme for this month is to show where we live.  This is the beginning of the doll quilt I'm making to represent my state of Oregon.

You can read more about my vision for this quilt here.  Or you can be surprised and watch for more postings about it as I put it together this week.  I like to finish my swaps early in the month.

It's never too late to join in my NewFO Challenge for 2012.  Start a new project each month and build up your supply of UFO's!  There is no size limit.  Your starts can be as small as potholders or mug rugs or as large as king-size bed quilts (and beyond!, to quote Buzz Lightyear).  No finishes required, and there is a monthly giveaway.  Read all about it here.  Join us!  It's going to be fun!  And if you want to display my button on your blog, feel free to grab the HTML code at the top of my right side bar.

That's it for me this week.  For inspiration from other design walls, visit:

Sure looks like a lot of sewing. Great projects you have going. Are you sure you want to start 12 more?

Creating UFOs is a fun idea Barbara, but I just have way too many already. Maybe next year I`ll have got up and be able to do this one.
