Day Trip

We drove in and out of the sunshine today.  Above and below the fog.  At times, it looked as if we could walk right off the cliff and out onto a feather bed of clouds.

But I don't recommend it.

We visited our friends Jan and Greg today to pick up a plant they had for us.  Their land is a photographer's paradise, full of interesting objects, plants, and far away landscapes.  At this time of year, the plants aren't as interesting because there is little in bloom.  One of the things I love about photography, however, is that with proper composition and cropping, even the most mundane of objects can seem interesting . . . even beautiful.

This house in the distance reminds me of some of the wonky houses I see on quilts.

Photography focuses my attention on minutiae . . . forces me to look.  I might not have noticed this tiny landscape on a split log otherwise.  It could be the outline of a leafless tree at sunset.

Even a box of bottles can take on its own unique character,

especially in sepia tones.

Gold tones on red will always catch my eye.  Maybe a quilt in these colors would be nice someday.

When the weather turns cold, crisp, and clear, the mountains come into sharp focus.  Here is Mt. Hood.

And here is a rare glimpse of Mt. Jefferson, some 150 miles away.

As I've said in earlier blog posts, our days are short this time of year, as this raking light of sunset shows.

Day is very nearly done.

The pictures really are just gorgeous. It is a rare day that the mountains are so clear and beautiful so I am glad to be able to see them.

Beautiful photos! Were these taken with the new camera? I like the weeds against the orange the best, very colorful and simple.

Someone is really enjoying her new camera! ...and that someone has a great eye for super shots. The whole world really does seem to look different when viewed from behind the lens. Keep up the good work.
