Design Wall Monday--December 19, 2011

My sewing machine is in the shop, and so I've been working on fusible applique since I posted my last design wall.  I've done all the applique for the final three blocks on the Home is Where the Heart is quilt.  The top-stitching still needs to be done on all three of these blocks, and there is some hand-embroidery to do.  In fact, I need to go back and do some hand embroidery on most of the blocks.  When I started this, I wasn't doing any hand-embroidery, and now I've developed a passion for it.  I'm willing to do a little more with this now.

This is the October block.

This is the November block.  You can't see it in this image, but the sign the turkey is holding says "Eat Beef".

And, finally, here is the December block.  There is quite a bit of embroidery to do on this one.  The gingerbread men in the bottom panel have frosting outlines on all of their arms and legs, and their faces need to be embroidered in white thread.  Each also has two little white buttons.  Also, there will be reigns leading from the reindeer to Santa's hand.

Once the top-stitching and embroidery are done, I'll sew all 12 blocks together and add a couple of borders.  One of the borders is a log cabin border, and so that will need to be pieced together.  My plan is to free motion quilt this one, but I never know if I'm going to follow through on that until I see how large the quilt ends up being.

So that's it from me until I get my sewing machine back.  And with this being a block of the month quilt, I'm also linking up to:

It's nice to have handwork when the machine is in the shop. The blocks look great.
