November Doll Quilt: Field of Dreams

It's another beautiful Autumn day in Oregon.  (Not.)

This is what it looks like out my window right now.

Just lovely.  Oh well.  It's good sewing weather, as I've taken to saying.  Today I made the top for my November Doll Quilt swap.

I think this turned out so cute.  I hope my swap partner likes it.  I found the wheat fabric I'm using in the border while visiting my son down in Klamath Falls one time.  This is the first time I've used it in anything.

I'm going to quilt straight lines radiating out in the field and then free motion quilt some swirls in the sky and for smoke coming out of the chimney.  At least, I think it's a chimney.  What do you think?  Then, maybe I'll attempt something a little more difficult in the borders.  I'm going to use a green batik for the back and bind it with the same green . . . or maybe gold . . . or maybe the same brown I used in the inner border.  I haven't decided yet.  This quilt is approximately 19 x 21 inches.  I found the pattern in a book entitled, Paper-Pieced Mini Quilts, by Windy Vosters.

I might have told you that my partner for the November Doll Quilt swap seems to have flown the coop since the new Quilting Board started up.  I don't blame her one bit since I too hate the new quilting board.  In any case, I went on the board and whined and moaned that I'd been orphaned for the month of November, when a nice woman from England spoke up and said she'd be my partner for the month.  Just another example of what I've known since the day I was born:  whining and moaning pays off.  Just do it loudly and for long enough and eventually someone will give in.  I offer that bit of wisdom up as my tip of the day.

Love your block. It looks like a country scene with a barn and silo, but the wonderful thing is you can make it a chimney if your heart desires. Whom ever receives your little master piece will love it!

LOL - I also assumed it was a barn and silo. Your quilting style can make it look almost like anything you want. Can't wait to see it completely finished.

Nice quilt! My first thought was that was a silo next to house - but I don't think they put them that close. A chimney makes much more sense.

I haven't been on the Board much lately, but it does seem a lot harder to figure out where you're going. And what happened to the ones I had 'saved' so I could check them when I wanted? I think I just need to play over there some more!
