What a Day!

We had a crew of eight here today painting our house.  To be accurate, they were staining the cedar shake siding and painting the trim and the doors.  It turned out nice.  It certainly didn't make George and Gracie very happy, however.  They spent the day huddled in the basement sewing room with me.  I guess I was huddled there too since the place was crawling with men, dripping paint, belt sanders, and other deadly- looking power tools.  It gave me an excuse to sew all day.  Fortunately, they are finished and gone!  I would post a before and after picture, but the light isn't good right now.  I'll do that tomorrow.

So what did I sew, you ask--at least I'm assuming you're asking.  I finished the eighth of nine blocks for my "Let Sleeping Cats Lie" quilt.

I kind of like the contrast between these two colors.  Here are all the blocks I've completed so far:

And here are the fabrics for the ninth and final block:

I'll work on that one next week some time, and then I'll be ready to sew the whole thing together!!

In addition, I completed my 12 1/2-inch bee block.  This is the first time I've participated in this particular swap.  Everyone makes a 12 1/2-inch block, and our partners are secret.  We know who we are sending our block to, but we don't know who will send a block to us.  I asked for "anything cat."  (What else is there?)  My partner, on the other hand, asked for "autumn leaves, or autumn-related; harvest time".  Not nearly as charming as cats, but there's no accounting for taste.  Here's the block I made for her:

I wish it had a little more contrast between the leaf and the green background, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.  I hope she's happy with it.

So that's my day.  And now, because I've been hanging out in the basement all day trying to avoid the crashing and banging, I'm absolutely starving.  Time to make dinner.  Was your day as exciting as mine?

Great colors in your cat block! The leaf block looks so much like fall - I'm sure your swap partner will love it.
Was my day as exciting as yours? Nope. I would never consider grocery shopping exciting - lol!

I love your cat block...but then I, too, love "anything cat"!! I believe your partner will be so happy with the leaf block!
Hubby and I are in charge of the painting around this place. We have one more side of the house, and then we'll be done. Staining the deck is happening today -- I guess fall is a good time to do chores, isn't it?!

The cat quilt is looking quite spectacular!

I guess with a crew of 8, they really did get the job done fast, didn't they? My BIL is a painter & one time when my sister came home from work, the whole front & sides of the house were a different color than when she left! lol By himself, he didn't quite get the last side done. :D

I think your Wednesday was way better than mine. Worked job#1 (town clerk) in the morning. Ran to job#2 (school tax collector) during lunch. Back to #1 for the afternoon. Break for dinner. Town board meeting in the evening and then back to #2. I think I got home by 10:15 and crashed.

The more I see your cat blocks the more I keep thinking I should get mine started. I really like that yours are in "solid" colors. Maybe I can pick up a Cherrywood pack...

Love your cat blocks! They are looking bright and fiesty! The leaf block block is subtle, I like the way the leave looks like it just fell off the tree, not quite completely changed in color yet.
