One Down, Last One to Go

I completed one of the two final strips for my Kitten's Tale BOM.  It's a very long strip, so here's a close-up of the center so you can get a better look:

Each of the little flower stems requires a yo-yo, and I haven't yet started on them.  To complete both strips requires 48 yo-yo's.  I'm a little worn out on the embroidery, so I think I might get started on those next.  Here's what the whole quilt will look like.  These blocks I'm working on are at the top and bottom of the quilt.

I can't decide whether to sew the blocks together before or after sewing on the yo-yo's.  The yo-yo's for the other blocks are sewn on, but they also have pinwheel borders to separate them.  With these blocks being so long and narrow, I'm wondering if the yo-yo's will get in the way as I sew them and the borders on.  What do you think?

Yesterday, I finished the top-stitching for my "Home is Where the Heart Is" BOM September block.  I like this one.

It bothered me that all the faces on the school bus were white faces.  I decided to make one of them brown.  Where I live, it would be rare to see nothing but white faces on a school bus anywhere.  The social worker in me knows that our country is more heterogeneous than that.

When I'm not piecing blocks, it doesn't feel as if I'm accomplishing much with my sewing.  But these two blocks represent many hours of sewing.

I love Lynette's Hugo and Felix, I did a few of hte punches in her books and love doing them. Have never tried blueberry crisp, always make apple. Yesterday I made some banana snack cake and cooked up some blueberries for a topping and a scoop of strawberry ice cream, nice treat.

Yep - just *love* this project!! Do you have the handy little snappy thing that makes making yo-yo's so fun and easy?

As the mom of a brown kid who rode the bus to middle school, I appreciate that you included diversity on your bus, Barbara. Hers was the only Brown face in the entire school.

Thanks for linking up at BOMs Away. :D

Like Lynda, I think it's cool that you diversified the bus riders. It would have looked weird to me, too, with all white faces!

About the yo-yo's - they shouldn't make it hard to piece the quilt together. Just make sure the yo-yo's are on the top side while you're sewing the seam. I think it would be more of a pain to stitch them on through the whole-quilt bulk than to piece with them on. (I say this as I'm finishing stitching 42 yo-yo's on the center of a quilt and am infinitely glad I did this now and not after the rest of the quilt was attached.)
