For the Birds

It was a day of errands, laundry, and mops.  A dry day is a good day for mopping floors in Oregon, so I took advantage of it.  Then I needed to run some errands in town.  Nothing very interesting, but I did stock up on more bird seed and suet.  We started putting suet out in order to attract woodpeckers.  This evening, we saw a Northern Flicker, which is a type of woodpecker.  Magic!

I thought he looked remarkably like the Gila Woodpecker we saw in Big Bend a few years ago.

The Gila Woodpecker is a little darker and his red patch is on top of his head instead of on his cheeks.  Still, I had to check because the Northern Flicker looked so familiar to me.  It's always fun to attract new bird friends.

I've noticed the family of quail have shown up now too.  I love seeing them.  They're so funny with their dingle balls dancing in front of their eyes.  I think that's how they know where they're going . . . they just follow the dingle ball.

Aside from that it was a quiet day here.  No sewing for me.  Sometimes I just don't feel like it.  Tomorrow I'll be home all day, so I'll probably get more accomplished.

I adore quail! Too bad there aren't any around where I live. I remember camping at Alta Lake in eastern WA and the quail were scurrying about under the RV and the cat we had at the time was about having conniption fits. :)

Thanks for sharing the picture of the flicker! For a short time in the spring we get the Gilded Flicker and it is much more brown.

Oh!It's beautiful! I love birdwatching. Sometimes I wish I had better lenses in my camera though!

Great pictures! My Guy has been taking shots of the birds in our area, I had no idea all the different kinds of birds we had roosting around the area.
