Design Wall Monday--April 11, 2011

I've worked all week doing the free motion quilting for my Ribbit, Ribbit quilt.

I put pebbling around the frog appliques.

I put a design that Leah Day refers to as Kelp Forest on the inner border.

I'm using variegated threads to make the quilting difficult to see (in case I mess up badly), but it's easier to see on the pieced back.

Finally, I'm using Leah Day's Wiggly Woven Lines in the outer border.  Again, it's intentionally difficult to see.

It's easier to see on the back.

As I've said before, I'm a novice when it comes to free motion quilting.  This project has gone surprisingly well, and it's been great practice for some of the free motion quilting I'd like to try on some of my other unfinished quilts.  It's also been a lesson in patience, which is always a good thing to work on.  The work has been tediously slow, but when I go at it with the right frame of mind, it's very relaxing.

For now, I've run out of thread, so I'm dead in the water.  Time to go back to working on my stitcheries until more arrives at my doorstep--soon, I hope.  (Update:  I just checked the tracking number, and it's out for delivery today!  Yay!)  I really want to get this one finished for next week's design wall.  To see what others have on their design walls, check out Judy's blog at Patchwork Times.

I would say you have the knack for free motion. I think I did better on my first one, now I think about it too much, lol.

How did you get so good at this, and you say you're just starting out? Wow! Sure wish I could do that well!
