Design Wall Monday--October 25, 2010

It doesn't seem as if I have much to show even though I feel as if I did a lot of sewing.  I finished putting the border on my Iris Rising block for my Checkerboard Flowers block of the month quilt.

And I completed the fourth block for my "Kitten's Tale" block of the month.  This one is a lot of work, mainly because of the embroidery, but also because of the yo-yo's, which I find tedious.

Then, I decided to do something different and started on Christmas presents.  I'm making six pairs of these, and I got three done today.  They are pocket hand warmers.  You put them in the microwave for 20 seconds and warm them up.  Then they fit inside your pockets to keep your hands warm.

I got this pattern from The Sewing Republic Bernina website.  You can make these in less than an hour.  I think they're a good size for a woman or a child, but for a man's hand, they need to be larger.  I made mine 6 1/2-inches square for the main part of the pouch, and then 6 1/2-inches x 10 inches for the rectangular portion that forms the pocket.  They fit Mike's hands much better at that size.  And then, I increased the amount of rice to 3/4 cup instead of 1/2 cup.

So that's it from me this week.  I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else has done.  Hop on over to Judy's blog to see.

The blocks look wonderful. Is that just a pinked edge on the applique? Very sweet.

I'm bookmarking this for hand warmers--great idea. I should make a really big one for a footwarmer for my bed (I can't sleep if my feet are cold!)
