Foto Finish--Patterns

This week's Foto Finish theme is "Patterns."  Here's my entry:

These are the patterns I saw at my feet while walking on the beach in Waldport, Oregon, one day.  I've always like the way the water forms these rivulets and other interesting patterns.  I learned from watching a documentary that there is a place in Washington state called the "Scablands" where a pattern like this exists on a large scale.  Like . . . HUGE!  Geologists were mystified by these formations for decades until one day, one of them recognized it for being this same pattern, only on a much larger scale.  He theorized that it had happened because of an epic flood at some point in the past.  He was nearly laughed out of the room at a conference because he couldn't account for where all of the water had come from.  Eventually though, a colleague agreed with him and together they theorized that the flood had come from a melting ice dam somewhere in Montana.  Interesting, huh?  And when you see it from the air, it's obvious that it's the same pattern.

Although, I haven't been able to generate much interest in "Foto Finish," I'm going to continue the game, and just hope for more participants.  To those of you who have participated, I hope you'll post my button on your blog just to spread the word.  Since I'm planning a trip this winter for several months, I'm going to continue the game just because I'll be taking so many pictures.  I should be able to come up with lots of new images.

And to those of you who read along but maybe don't think of yourselves as "photographers," I hope you'll post your images too.  If you take pictures (and who doesn't), you are a photographer.  Be bold.  Let the rest of us see what you've done and what has captured your imagination!

So now I'd like to see what you have come up with for this week's theme of "Patterns."

Next week's theme will be "Cold."  How will you interpret the theme?  Will you think of the temperature?  Or the mood?  I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.  Until then, take care.  Please link up and show us your patterns.

Thought I would give this another try. I too had thought of paterns in the sand. This photo was taken a Mokau which is a small settlement an hour north of where we live in New Plymouth, New Zealand. We have a bach (holiday home) at Mokau and are off there tomorrow for a few days.
