Third March Finish

Good morning, my friends. The day started out with a bang yesterday...or, more accurately, a poke. We were out bright and early so I could get a fasting blood draw. Sometimes I'm a hard stick, and so it always provokes a little anxiety. Yesterday...one stick, and I barely felt it. Yahoo! It was a good way to start the day.

We'd planned breakfast at a local Black Bear Diner, but it was really, really cold inside the restaurant when we arrived. We were informed their heater was broken, and they were working on getting it fixed. We decided not to stay and returned to our old standby, McDonald's, for our Egg McMuffins. No worries. (I really wanted Egg McMuffin anyway. It was nice of the Black Bear folks to turn on the refrigeration so we could end up where we were meant to be.) After breakfast, we got our grocery shopping done, and we were home before 10:00 a.m.

By the time we got home, I was desperately in need of some coffee. I did my usual morning stuff, and then got busy with my sewing. I really, really, really wanted to finish off the Nordic Star table runner, and so that was how I spent the rest of my day. Smitty was there to help me choose the right thread color.

The binding strips were already cut. I just threaded the machine and wound a bobbin, and then I sewed that puppy onto the quilt.

And any day that starts as ours did usually has me in the mood to just sit a stitch the afternoon away. As dinner time approached, it was finished. Ta-Da!

Here's how it looks from the back.

Now it's boxed up and ready to ship to the woman who requested it.

We have a couple of other errands to run in town this morning too, and so that'll take up a part of my day. For my next trick, I want to finish off this Christmas Miracle piece. It's a surprise gift for a friend, and I want to get it shipped off to her.

I have fabrics picked out. I'll give it one border and sew it on quilt-as-you-go style. After that, it'll just need a binding. Also, I want to add a hot fix crystal to each of the stars. To finish it off will probably take most of the day, and so my WIPs will have to wait until my next round of sewing. After that, I'll feel as if things are pretty much back to normal in the sewing room.

As I've mentioned, this year I'm focusing on finishing off the quilt tops that are piled up for quilting. There is just one left that is already sandwiched, and I'll start on the quilting for this Amish Sampler within the next day or two.

The last time I sandwiched quilts was in July of 2024, and this one has been waiting patiently all that time. When this one is finished, I'm going to have to set up my sawhorse and plywood tables in the garage and sandwich another pile. Some warmer weather would be appreciated.

Regarding warmer weather, we're supposed to get into the 60's today. As Mike noted earlier, it's going to have to go some to reach that level of warmth. In any case, we're expecting good weather for the No Kings protest tomorrow. That is very good news. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'll be taking tomorrow off from blogging. We can meet back here on Sunday. I'll get up on my soapbox and tell you all about the protest and the signs. We're hoping for a big showing, and I expect we're going to get it.

All right...the day awaits. Breakfast is next. Have a good day, Everybody!
