Old Rusty Things

Good morning, my friends. It was another do-nothing day. That's not entirely true. We had to go to the grocery store, and our list was relatively long. When we got back to the RV and had everything put away, we decided we were no longer interested in doing anything else, and so we spent the rest of the day relaxing. I did three loads of laundry, so that's something. And, of course, I spent some time on my slow-stitching, filling my hoop again.

I thought I might be able to fit the remainder in my hoop when I moved it, but there’s still a little ways to go with this. I expect I’ll finish it in a couple of days.

Late in the day, I decided to get out with my macro lens again and focus on shapes and texture. There are a lot of old broken down things sitting around the park as a form of landscape art. I took pictures of these things during our visit four years ago. You can see them at this old post. Sadly, in the intervening years, they've all started to deteriorate and fall apart, and so they're less desirable as photography subjects than they used to be. Nevertheless, I found some shapes and textures interesting to me.

This first one is the hairy fibers on a yucca just outside our RV.

I'm not exactly sure what this next thing is, but I think it had something to do with the axle on an old wagon wheel.

Rusty old bolt.

This is some tree bark on a tree outside our RV.

This is the tiny flower blooming on some weeds that are growing all around the park.

These are the nasty thorns on a barrel cactus.

Another rusty old thing holding together the wooden sides of a wagon.

A spring for a sort of handle on a wheeled mining bucket.

This is the surface of a beavertail cactus.

The wheels and gears with spokes were interesting to me.

It's a challenge to get a good composition when shooting up close. Sometimes I'm just looking at the textures.

A rusty old nut and bolt.

These are the needles of a saguaro cactus.

I'm especially fond of the saguaros.

New, old, and needing repair.

And with Valentine's Day coming up, how could I resist this?

Kitty paws and claws (murder mittens).

Pink kitty nose.

So, for my next photography outing, I think I'll choose a card from my pack of photography prompts and see where that takes me.

We're still up in the air about what we'll do today. I believe we'll take a hike in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. There's another urban hike in Henderson, but I also want to visit the quilt shop in Henderson. Since the quilt shop is closed on Monday's, we'll probably save that hike for tomorrow. It will all be revealed to you in tomorrow's post.

Wow - awesome exploration of shapes and textures. Enjoy those hikes in the next day or so. And the quilt shop of course.

I love your shapes and textures photos. My absolute FAV is the pink kitty nose.

Those laid back days are nice once in awhile. Nice photos! I like the sagaro photo with the spikes on the right.
