Sewing on a Rainy Day

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day with lots accomplished in the sewing room. Since it rained a good part of the day, it was a good day for sewing. For starters, I sewed together the newest Gumballs blocks.

That makes 15 of 30 blocks for this project, and so I can say it's half finished. These are the blocks I have so far.

It seems like a mish-mash of colors, but the diagonals seem to bring out a bit of a pattern. I like this project. I might even be motivated to make another one in different colors.

As I was getting ready to start on the next block for the Raggedy & Friends project, Sadie showed up. She likes this quilt.

I'd already done the embroidery for this block, and so I finished piecing it together.

That makes 7 of 12 blocks completed for this project. Here are the blocks I have so far.

For the next block, I'll be stitching this big capital letter "A". It's a little hard to see in this image...just an "A" with some details stitched into it.

Also, here's a peek at my mystery project. All the hand-stitching is done. There's one more little hand-stitching bit, but I'll have to do the machine sewing first. I'm also going to do some embellishments on this piece. Any guesses?

In my "regular" embroidery rotation, I'm making good progress on the 4th block for Le Jardin. Probably I'll finish this today or tomorrow.

Knowing it won't take long, I spent some time tracing the block for My Embroidered Garden. This one has a lot of fancy stitches. For the tracing portion, I just use dots as suggested by Meg Hawkey, the designer.

It's also supposed to have some coloring, but I decided not to do that this time around. There's plenty of color with all the floss colors I'll be using.

When I make my way to the sewing room today, I'll be making the final two blocks for the Shop Hop 4.0 quilt using these fabrics.

Today was supposed to be a day to get together with Matthew. We were going to try to get out for a walk as we did at our last meet-up. The weather is so awful, we decided to bag it and try again next week. That means it'll be a mostly sewing day for me. I have one easy housekeeping chore, and I'll go for a walk on the treadmill. Except for that, it'll be all sewing all the time.

We're expecting our weather to improve early next week, and even over the weekend. During a dry spell yesterday, I checked on the Firefighter dahlia. The other dahlias are cut back, and their pots have been moved into the garage for the winter. I was holding out hope for this one because it still had two more buds on it. You can see one of them in the upper right corner of the image below.

When I looked at them yesterday, they looked exactly the same as they did about two weeks ago, so I'm not holding much hope they'll ever open. That means I'll be cutting this one back when the rain stops, and dahlia season will come to a close. Better luck next year, Firefighter.

Okay, so off I go. Slow-stitching awaits. Have a good day, Everybody!
