Good morning, my friends. This morning I can say the Merry, Merry Snowmen project is a finished quilt top. Ta-Da!
I spent some time yesterday pawing through my stash. I couldn't find anything appropriate for the back, and so I guess I'll be driving south to The Cotton Patch quilt shop where they'll give me 25% off on a backing if I bring in a finished top. I need four yards, and so it'll be like getting the fourth yard for free. Also, I'm still looking for fabrics for a Christmas table runner someone requested. I'll feed two fabric birds with one scone.
I'm not sure how much time I'll have for sewing today. I'm getting my monthly pedicure, but I should still have some time this afternoon. I'll be starting to quilt the sashing on the Whimsical Garden. To be clear, it isn't really sashing. Rather, they're the block borders, and when the blocks were sewn together, they formed a sashing. I'll start with the horizontal rows, and save the vertical ones for tomorrow.
Just now I looked up "killing two birds with one stone" to see if I had that right. All of a sudden I started thinking it was "seven birds with one blow" or something like that. I'm old. These things happen. AI was kind enough to offer up that alternative of feeding two birds with one scone. That's nicer than killing them. Wouldn't you agree?
Okay, so before I got busy with my other sewing, I stitched the 14th Tiny Treasure. Fun. I like using that fly stitch for the leaves. This one also has satin stitch, stem stitch, and lazy daisy stitch.
If there's time, I'll get busy quilting The Sewing Room. This is a small quilt, and so I'll do this one on my domestic machine.

Congratulations on your Merry, Merry Snowmen project finish. It is beautiful. I've always struggled with the "kill 2 birds with 1 stone" as it just seems to me to inspire people to throw stones at sweet little birds who didn't do anything to deserve such. Thanks for sharing your kinder version. With your approval I will do my part to make it go viral as it does promote kindness. Enjoy your pedicure. I really need to get into the habit of doing the same monthly.
I like your snowmen!
You sent me down a little rabbit hole (or Wikipedia hole). The “killing seven” you remembered is from another folk tale, “The Brave Little Tailor”. He killed seven flies with one blow. And “feeding two birds with one scone” was suggested by PETA, along with “There’s more than one way to feed a cat” as part of a series called “Stop Using Anti-Animal Language.” Dot in NC
Your snowmen piece is really lovely--the snowmen really do pop right out on those tans and reds beautifully...lovely work on this--
congratulations on a flimsy finish...;)))Hugs, Julierose
Enjoy the pedi, and I hope your quilt shop visit is fruitful (fabricful??)!
Your snowmen looks fantastic, like the colors.
Have a nice visit to the fabric store.
Ta-Da! It's such a good feeling to finish! Your snowmen look happy and fun.
I have to finish the embroidery on the sewing room blocks.
It keeps snowing here. Not much, but it sure is teasing us tha winter is coming. Ugh.
Great work on the merry snowmen quilt top, it is beautiful. I have to agree it seems unnecessary to use the phrase killing two birds with one stone but there are a lot of strange animal or bird linked phrases.
The snowmen are adorable!!!
