Good morning, my friends. I'm writing fast this morning. We're getting a flu shots in a few hours. I expect to feel crummy tomorrow, but it's usually just a minor malaise. Every year is different, of course. I'm hoping it won't last long because I had a date with my son for breakfast on Friday. I'm looking forward to spending some one-on-one time with him.
As expected, I finished the 12th of 12 blocks for Grandpa's Bridges yesterday.
I'll be sewing it into a quilt top soon. There was a time when I sewed finished sets of blocks together in the order they reached that stage. Now, I work on whatever project is the oldest. Currently, have a list of three to sew together, and this one is the oldest. It gets to go to the front of the line. I have some great fabrics to work with, but I haven't decided on anything yet. Here are all the blocks I have for this quilt.
So that meant I needed to ready my next project...the Tiny Treasures. I went digging through my stash of embroidery floss. These are the colors I'll be using for this project.
As I studied the pattern a little more closely, this line jumped out at me.
Interestingly, I'd already pulled a fabric to use, and lookie there!
There is some yardage, but there are also some long strips cut from the whole. When I traced the first 12 designs, I used some of those strips. It's hard to see in this image, but I drew a grid of 2-1/2 inch squares and then just eyeballed it to trace them in the center of the squares.
And then I turned my attention to these blocks. One of the panels is called "Fantastic Felines," and that's what I've been calling it. I'm starting to think I should call it "Frustrating Felines." I made a weak attempt to lay them out with some kind of symmetry. I couldn't figure out a way to do it. If you want to give it a try, I'm open to suggestions.
Originally, I thought I'd sash the blocks. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'll just sew them together without sashings and give it a wide border. And maybe I just won't be able to use all the blocks in a single quilt. And maybe I need to put it in time-out and let it think about what it's become.
Even Sadie is tired of this project.
When I walked away from it yesterday afternoon, I left it on the floor where I'd laid it. The kitties had some ideas about how to arrange it. This might actually be an improvement.
Now that I've slept on it overnight, I have a couple more ideas to try. Probably, I won't use all the blocks. I could put any extras aside and use them another time. I'll give it another try when we get home this afternoon. If something doesn't jump out at me right away, I'll probably set this project aside and come back to it another day. It's supposed to be fun, right?
Okay, so I'm heading downstairs to get started on the Tiny Treasures. Hopefully, our outing today will leave me some time in the sewing room this afternoon.

Sometimes people incorporate extra blocks into the backing.
We had only a very mild reaction to the flu shot this year--a bit of a headache and some aches--but gone in one day--hope you do well...
The covered bridges look gorgeous--nice work on them...I'm looking forward to seeing how you put them together...;))) Hugs, Julierose
I didn’t have much of a reaction to the flu vaccination this year so hopefully it will be the same for you. Also, yes, it’s supposed to be fun and after the quilters math you’ve done, I’m hopeful you’ll have an idea that works. My only thought is to sew them into foursies and maybe set the with alternate squares.
I think I would stagger the orange blocks throughout, one in each row. And maybe even stagger the white background blocks more. You could lay the blocks out on a big piece of fabric to see if sashing would help, but sashing just makes more work and it sounds like you want to be done with this one.

The artwork of helpers. Don't cha just love it.
I have the same pattern, yet to finish it. Loved when those printed quilters designs came out. I put them on T-shirts and tiny quilts, pillows. Wish they'd do some more.
I've been loving those bridge blocks since you began working on them. So pretty! The cat project seems to be growing really fast, but should be fun to see it come together.
