Piece and Carrots

Good morning, my friends. It was a red sunrise this morning. Rain is coming. It's expected to arrive by Sunday.

Before the rain was forecast, Mike had cut all the exterior caulking from the truck camper. It was old and cracked, and he wanted to replace it. Now all the bare cracks are exposed, and he's been working feverishly to get it all sealed back up before the wet weather arrives. Yikes. He should finish it today, but it turned into a more fast and furious job than he was anticipating.

My first task yesterday morning was to make these Spicy Dilled Carrot Spears. I had them finished by lunch time. This is a family favorite. I'll warn you though: they are habit-forming. If you're not into canning, these can be refrigerated as well. So tasty.

The only other thing on yesterday's agenda was to continue making five blocks for the new Stair Steps project. When I stopped on Wednesday, I had 20 scrappy 2-patches to work with.

Smitty was supposed to be my helper cat, but he was agog at the idea of working with so many small pieces. It was another one of those times when he fled the scene under questionable purrtenses.

Oh shoot! I just remembered my appointment with a mouse. Gotta go!

Okay, well it was hard to purrceed without kitty help, but I sewed all those 2-patches into 4-patches.

And then I sewed them into the four sections of the block.

And then, I sewed the first block together. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, some of the blocks have common colors running through diagonally. This one is scrappy all the way.

Happily, Sadie came to see if I needed any help. She wasn't sure she wanted to work with such small pieces either.

But then, I brought out the orange scraps. She liked how they looked with her furs, and so she agreed to stick around and help.

Her first job was to help organize the common colors I'd cut a few days earlier.

With her help, I sewed together a yellow scrappy block.

When I started cutting the many squares for the next block, she stood by and helped to make sure I cut them accurately.

When I cut something correctly, she rubbed my hand with her cheek in support of my efforts.

With her help and support, I managed to sew together a pink scrappy block as well.

So that makes three down, two to go for this project. I still need a blue one and another yellow one for this first row. I'm hoping I can finish those today.

Also on today's agenda, I want to get in a walk on the treadmill, and I need to make a quick trip into town. There should be plenty of time for sewing. Just now, it's time for breakfast and slow-stitching, and so I'll leave you to whatever you have planned for your day. Have a good Friday, Everybody!

We went in search of foam insulation for hub's shed doors, only to find the place that said it had them, did not. But we found a new restaurant to explore, and it was good, so the entire morning wasn't shot. Off to the quilt room soon!

You are making good progress on the new scrap quilt. Hopefully Mike got all the sealing done before the rain hit. Have a great weekend.

I wish Mike good luck finishing his project before all the rain arrives. It will be so nice when finished, but sounds like a big project. Your scrappy quilt project is coming along nicely. I like how you arranged your colors very much.

mmm - now I want to taste-test those carrots!
Can't imagine all the cutting involved in those blocks because I'm feeling overwhelmed enough at the prospect of needing to cut 10" squares for my fusion quilt project.
