Good morning, my friends. As suspected, I don't have a lot to show you today. We left Glacier View under gray and threatening skies. The rain had stopped by the time we left, and we didn't get into any more along our way. Still, the views were obscured by very low-lying cloud cover. To-wit:
Here, I might have shown you the beautiful views described in the Milepost below, but no.
We looked for sheep on the rocky slopes where we thought we might see them. It seems even sheep know to come in out of the rain.
Here, I could show you Knob Lake.
As for the rest described in the Milepost...sorry.
Here again...this is Leila Lake.
We were driving on a section of the Glenn Highway dedicated to the memory of Alaska State Trooper Bruce Heck. His story was included in our Milepost:
Not listed in the Milepost, but interesting enough, were these clouds settled in the valley.
Also, I wanted to show you how the lupine lining the highways has been replaced by fireweed now.
There wasn't much to see in this little town.
It's history was interesting though.
Yeah...there was no evidence of the building that burned. Those structures above my mirror and through my dirty window are pretty much all that's left of the town.
Shortly after that, we arrived at our final destination for the night. Sorry for the blur.
And here's what I know about this place.
This is what we see from our back window:
The sun came out later in the day. We were able to get Smitty out for a walk.
Looking upstream, everything looked really pretty in the sunshine.
When I checked into the RV park, the woman behind the desk enticed me to come back later for a flight of these little ice cream shots. They have booze in them, and they’re intended to taste like little frozen pies. Here’s mine from left to right: Walnut Butter Cream, Banana Cream Pie, Cookies and Cream, Cookie Dough…named for the flavor of ice cream used. They were tasty, and the bartender was a kick.
There was a restaurant that served only pizza and chili. (What else is there?) And it had a full bar.
The inside of the lodge was very rustic and cozy.
So that was a fun little break from our usual evening routine.
It’s time for breakfast, and then we’ll be heading out. Next top…Valdez. Fingers crossed for some good weather.
