Tangle Toes

Good morning, my friends. I'm writing fast again this morning because Mike and I are taking his truck in for some service this morning...something he can't do himself. I'm just going along to give him a ride home. Before we head for home, though, we'll get some groceries. Today's list is short, fortunately.

After writing yesterday's post, I took a little walk around the house to see what's new. I was happy to see flower buds forming on the Stargazer Lily. Sometimes the squirrels eat the flowers, but other times we get to enjoy them. We'll miss them this year, I'm afraid.

Here's a picture from last year.

Nothing new from the peonies, and I'm blaming them for what happened next. As I walked around to the other side of the house, I stepped over a hose. Somehow (and I'm not sure about this), I think I caught the toe of my shoe on the sidewalk and pitched forward...flat on my face. Hole-ly sh*t. I fell right on my nose, and if you've ever been hit in the nose, then you have some idea how painful such a blow can be. With such intense pain, it was hard to tell if I'd actually injured myself. Had I knocked out any teeth? Mike ran to me immediately, and it helped having him tell me how it looked.

Luckily, nothing was broken...not even the camera I was holding in my hand. I was holding the camera in my right hand, and I believe I came down hard on the little finger side of that hand. It cushioned the camera, but injured my knuckle and finger on that side. It's hurting today, but there's no bruising. I don't think anything is broken. And I'll say I appreciate my hand cushioning the blow and protecting the camera. As for my face, I have what amounts to road rash all over my nose. The fall put deep scratches in one of the lenses on my glasses. Fortunately, I have several pair with the correct prescription, and so I'm good to go there.

It was unfortunate to take such a bad fall, but the worst injury was to my pride. My face will heal. I'm pretty confident no bones were broken. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the scabs on my nose to heal. I'm going to look terrific when we go out to dinner on Thursday to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary (not). It's kind of funny, but when you've been married a long time, people like to ask you the secret of your success. I told Mike I'd point to my nose, and say, "Isn't it obvious?"

So...okay. An unfortunate incident, but no serious harm done. I just went inside, cleaned my nose and rubbed some antibiotic cream on it, and then I sat down to finish stitching the quilt binding. And there you go...a finished quilt. It ends up at 46 x 65 inches.

Here's how it looks from the back.

Okay, so I said I was writing fast, and today's post will have to be short. We'll drop off the truck and then go back for day two of our beloved Egg McMuffins. (Two days in a row! My nose needs it.) And then we'll do our grocery shopping. I'm also stopping off at the post office to pick up a couple of flat rate shipping boxes. If I buy a lot of fabric on our trip, I can ship some of it home. I've started carrying the shipping boxes with us since we sometimes have a hard time finding a post office when we're traveling.

And with that I'm off [balance]. But what else is new?

Goodness! I hope tomorrow brings nothing new to light from your fall….keeping my fingers crossed. I’ve got my passport and cash, both US and Canadian, packed ;-) Oh, and there was a vendor selling peony buds at the farmer market. Perhaps you should cut some to take along?

You say with confidence that just your pride was hurt. Glad that was all. Good heavens! To get hurt just before vacation. Youch. Hope when you wake up tomorrow , pain is not worse. I only say this because it usually is for me.

Such a shame about your fall, sometimes they just sneak up on us. It's an awful feeling, going down, and you wonder, how did that happen?

Oh Barbara! Such a scary fall! We were working outside planting Saturday and almost fell twice. Once with a 40 pound bag of dirt and the second time I turned and almost lost my balance, scary! I have a hard time getting up so hoping the knee replacement will help.
Your Joyful Journey is so pretty 🤩! I still need to trace mine out so I can do some embroidery after surgery, won’t be able to sew or drive for a while.

I'm sorry, too, to hear about your fall, but at least you were at home and not in a crowd of people. Glad Mike was there, too. Thank goodness nothing was broken, you or the camera! Take care.

Oh no, I too am so sorry about your fall. But easy to do. I'm glad nothing broken and Mike was nearby to support and assist. I hope all signs of your fall go away soon so you can't make up funny stories about how it happened (Mike did ?). Sounds like you still had a busy, yet good day.

Sooo, would you say that was the Pre-trip trip? So sorry to hear about your face planting adventures. My Driver did exactly that last year, tripping over the electric cord he had JUST put out for the Christmas lights. He tried to take me down with him, but all he could do was smack me in the butt on his way down. He ended up with two black eyes, road rash on his nose, chin, both knees, and broken glasses. And, somehow, it was all my fault! I'm glad you were able to cushion the camera fall and not damage any bones or concrete. Those darned peonies! Perhaps you can take some snips with you and maybe they'll open in the camper? They do look promising!!

So glad you didn't break anything and hopefully don't end up with a black eye to go along with your road rash nose. Perhaps the Resident Engineer will have to do an 'operation' on that section of sidewalk to be sure it doesn't happen again. It's fortunate you have more glasses and don't have to be in a mad panic to get them fixed before you leave.

Taking the flat rate boxes along is very clever!!

A fall like that is really scary, so glad you weren't hurt too badly. Not something you want to deal with in front of a special occasion and a bit trip.
