Good morning, my friends. As is often the case on a Tuesday, I'm writing fast this morning. We have a grocery shopping trip planned. Tuesday often ends up being the day because there's no way I'm setting foot in the grocery store on the weekend. And then, I don't like Monday shopping either. By waiting until Tuesday, we give them time to restock the shelves. Besides, nothing good ever happens on a Monday. Just sayin'.
But here's something good. Smitty is happy we've reached the time of the year when the morning sun shines in the window. He's waited months to get a decent sunbath.
Sadie purrfers to be cocooned in a quilt. And anyone who loves quilts knows the wisdom in her thinking.
I took the first stitches on the Spring Flowers piece yesterday. There are some suggested stitches for this design, but I'm going my own way. The grape hyacinths were to be stitched in a Peking Knot. You can see how it's done at that link I've given you. I didn't see how this could be done without couching every loop, and maybe that's just because I don't know what I'm doing. Still, I watched several videos, and couching was never part of the process. I decided to stitch them in a tight stem stitch instead.
Also, the foliage for the hyacinth was to be stitched in coral stitch. I took a few of those stitches, but then took them out. I didn't like how it looked, and so I'm doing a regular backstitch there.
I had some other things to do before I could make my way to the sewing room. When I arrived, I found Smitty, ready to help.
Here's a tip from Smitty: If you have itchy cheeks, these plastic bins make excellent cheek scratchers. And then, when you're finished scratching, you can get extra credit by using your cheek to push the bin onto the floor. You're welcome.
While he was busy creating his cheek-scratching tutorial, I went to work doing the fusing for the Merry, Merry Snowmen block. It took most of my sewing time, and so I stopped when I had it to the top-stitching step.
I'm hoping to finish this today. There's top-stitching around the fused pieces, and then some machine stitching to add in details. I'll also need to do some hand embroidery for the faces of the snowmen, and there are buttons to be sewn on to the snowman at the right. I'm also supposed to add a button as a door knob, but I'll probably use a hot fix nail head there.
If I can get that finished, I'll be ready to make another row of blocks for the Land & Sea quilt. This is my Duckworth quilt. I'm trying to use up some greens and blues. This is what I have so far.

As anyone who has ever been around a cat for any length of time well knows, cats have enormous patience with the limitations of the human kind. ~ Cleveland Amory
Cats are so special to me. Although the cat Amber we have now was given to us by our daughter a few years ago.. she prefers a quiet life with us oldies. Have a great trip to Alaska. Love your projects.
I'm with you when it comes to shopping...there's no way I'd set foot in the bigger grocery stores on Friday, Monday OR the weekends and if there happens to be a long weekend I'd prefer not to set foot in the store any time of the week.
Land & Sea is making good inroads into the scrap pile by the look of it.
The grocery store here isn't bad on weekends, but Walmart is horrible. Your snowman block is looking good. Hopefully Smitty was much less itchy after his plastic bin antics.
Well, I didn't hear news reports of grocery store incidents, so I'll assume the shopping went okay. Haha. Those snowman blocks are so cute.
