Good morning, my friends. It's Pi Day...and Friday. What could be better than that? And, yes. I will be baking a pie today to celebrate. Mike requested Dutch Apple. He even drove into town earlier this week to get some vanilla ice cream, because I think it would actually be against the law to eat pie without ice cream. In these days of ICE raids, we're taking no chances. If ICE comes to our door, we'll have ICEcream on hand as proof of our loyalty to culinary tradition.
We had a day of everything weather-wise yesterday, which is par for the course in this part of the country. It rained. It hailed. In the afternoon, the kitties were very happy about the sunshine coming in through the glass door. Smitty took up a position on his throne.
Sadie stretched out on the floor beside him.
My day started with me taking the first stitches on the Chives block.
There was plenty of time for a Bowflex workout, and I did my housekeeping chores. After lunch, I returned to the Land & Sea project. I'd already cut the blue centers the day before.
From there, I just started adding green strips, log-cabin style. I'm using a ruler to get straight cuts, but otherwise, I'm not measuring or trying to keep anything straight.
I kept adding strips around and around until they were large enough to trim to 10-1/2 inches. My goal was to make five more blocks. When they were finished, they looked like this:
And here are the three of six rows I have for this quilt so far. I've planned to set the blocks five per row with a total of six rows. I'll see how they look when I get them that far. Possibly, I'll decide to make more. Mainly, I'm just trying to pare down my blue and green scraps.
Today's goal will be to make two more blocks for the Girls' Getaway quilt. I've spent some time figuring out the status of this, and there are, indeed, five pieced blocks remaining before I can sew this into a flimsy. Today, I'll make two of this next block. It's called "Rosebud."
If those two blocks don't drive me crazy, I'll also make this little filler nine-patch. I might start with that as a warm-up.
It fits between two of the embroidered blocks in the center panel of the quilt. You can see the gap in the image below.
Also today, we're going to make a quick trip to the grocery store to pick up just enough to get us through the weekend. There are also a couple of things to drop in the mailbox. So, it seems a pretty easy-going day. Probably I'll try to get in a walk on the treadmill too.
So, I'm off to bake a pie. I hope y'all enjoy your Pi Day today, with or without the pie. If pie is your choice, don't forget the ICEcream.

We have chocolate banana pie in the freezer waiting for the weekend but perhaps we'll break it out a day early.
I'm enjoying the look of the Land & Sea quilt, probably because it reminds me of crazy quilting.
Happy Pi Day! I forgot to grab some ice cream while at the store this morning. Shoot. Oh well, enjoy some for me!
Hope you had a happy Pi Day and enjoyed your apple pie along with some good stitching time.
