Changing and Rearranging

Good morning, my friends. It's a foggy and cloudy morning here. We're expecting the clouds to burn off, and the day should be relatively warm. It doesn't matter much to me. I'm already in fall mode. Later this morning, I'm going to get some Old Fashioned Chicken and Dumplings started in my Dutch oven. It's a recipe I reworked from a slow cooker recipe to make more efficient use of my cooking vessels. And if you ask me, it's time to bring out the hearty soups for our dining pleasure. If summer is for main dish salads, fall and winter are definitely for soup.

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I missed my slow stitching on Thursday, so I spent a little extra time on it yesterday. I'm ready to be finished with this Phenology piece, but there are still at least several days to go before I get there.

It seemed like a good time to move my hoop clockwise again. It's a little over three-fourths of the way there. The trees at the top take quite some time to stitch. The designs are tiny, and so I'm making leaves using eensy-weensy chain stitches.

From there, I had one housekeeping chore standing between me and my sewing. When that was finished, I moved into the sewing room for the remainder of the day. Sadie was there to help me sort things out.

When I'd spent as much time on these as I could stand, I had two of the four finished.

The third one is laid out for today's sewing, and I should have no problem completing the fourth before I finish today.

I might have finished the third one yesterday, but honestly, these are tedious to make, and I was tired of messing with them. Despite my whining, I found a sequence for sewing them together that made it a little easier and less confusing. 

There was still time left in the day, even if I was tired of those blocks. It seemed like a good time to make up the September and October blocks for Joy in the Ordinary. These are the blocks I have for this quilt so far.

So I'm now needing to do two blocks to catch up with this one. And I have no recollection of doing this, but apparently, I already made up September's block before we left on our trip. There wasn't nearly as much time for slow-stitching on our trip as expected, and so it's still sitting in its box, hooped up for stitching.

When I've finished with Phenology, I'll get to work on these. They're small. Each one takes about an hour to stitch. They'll need borders added, and then I'll be caught up with this project.

Okay, so I have a good list of to-do's for the day. Time to eat some breakfast and get busy. Our leaves are changing here. I'll get out and take some pictures in a day or two. How's your fall weather shaping up?
