Situation Normal

Good morning, my friends. We're all back in our places. It was good to step outside yesterday morning and see Sadie in her usual morning napping spot.

Smitty was glad to have her back too. I don't think he realized she was missing at first. After a while, he was quieter and sat close to the door as he does during the day when he's waiting for her. Also, do you see the little scabs on the right side of his nose in the image below? Looks like someone or something put up a fight at some point in time.

As expected, the only sewing I did yesterday was to finish this section of the Garden Glory piece.

Now, I've moved my hoop to the final position. I expect it will be finished either today or tomorrow. I've nearly come to the end of that green floss. Fortunately, I believe I will have enough to finish the rest of the leaves.

This is how the kitties spent their day. They were pretty mad about being confined to the house. They were sure we'd made a terrible mistake.

A few things happened in the kitchen, including baking these Breakfast Carrot-Cake Oatmeal Cakes. I've had this recipe on the list for quite some time, and I finally got around to making it.

We each had one before heading down to the neighbor's housewarming party. The rest were frozen to take along on our trip. They'll make a quick and easy breakfast. If you're looking for something that tastes like carrot cake, you'll be disappointed. Technically, they're a sort of carrot oatmeal cupcake. The cinnamon comes through on these, and they have a nice chewy/crunch texture. We liked them. Someone wrote a review saying she'd like a little more sugar and a little less salt. They didn't seem overly salty to me with just a half teaspoon of salt to the whole batch. As for the sugar, that would be personal preference. They have 1/3 cup of brown sugar to the batch. If I wanted them sweeter, a touch of maple syrup or honey might be nice.

Toward day's end, Smitty gave up hanging out by the door and headed to the shelf on his catio. I tried tapping on the glass to get him to look at me for his picture, but he refused. He was mad about being kept in all day, and so he hid his face when I tried taking his picture.

It's just a few days until we leave on our trip. Some serious packing will need to begin soon. I need to pick up a few things in town, and I need to do one last pile of laundry. This last few days before taking off is always boringly busy with mundane but necessary tasks. I'll keep working on my slow-stitching until it's finished. Most of my time will be spent running up and down stairs...stairs in the house, and stairs in the RV. These final days always make my knees hurt. It'll be worth it once we get on down the road, and a change of scenery will be welcome.

Quite a storm blew through last night. For several hours, we saw bright flashes of lightning and the crack and boom of thunder. The skies opened up several times, and it poured rain. Checking our rain gauge this morning, we had 1/3 of an inch of rain. It seemed like more. This morning it's a little foggy, but the rain has stopped. After such a dry summer, the rain is welcome.

That's all the news I have for you today. The next few days will be slow news days. When we get going, I'll have a lot more to tell you.

We need to figure out a 'harvest system' to collect the produce that stores don't put out for customers to buy because it's not perfect looking. Frankly, the stuff left to rot in the storeroom is more beautiful to me than the perfect carrot. I'm a gnarly carrot kind of guy. ~ Mario Batali

So glad Sadie is back safe! Are they afraid of thunder? My cat senses it before it happens and she slinks quickly into the closet, her safe place.

Good luck getting all that packing and running around done--hoping your knees won't take too much punishment...Perhaps sitting and riding on your trip will rest them for you...
Glad to hear that Sadie is back in her little home and that you found her--cats can sure find spots to hide in --scarey!! Hugs, julierose

So glad Sadie is back. After 21 years without pets I've decided to get a
kitty. Long story short came home from the shelter with 2-they were surrendered by one owner. Just couldn't leave one there alone. They are still in the getting used to new surroundings. One is comfy and quite the cuddle
guy the other has his safe place behind the tv cabinet. Loving having kitties again.

The kitties do look pretty dejected. But it's only for a couple of days, then they'll be on the road again. Hope all the preparations for the trip go smoothly and your knee doesn't bother you too badly.

I imagine the kitties do have a mad on over being kept indoors. Little do they know that it's for their own good.
Those carrot cakes look interesting...might have to give them a try.
