A Finished Quilt Top

Good morning, my friends. We're heading into some warmer weather next week. I'm hoping it will cause the plums and the corn to ripen. For now, we're just enjoying the sunshine. It's been lovely so far. Into each life a little hot weather must come, I suppose.

Despite it being a grocery shopping day, it still started with some slow-stitching. I was happy to stitch this cat.

As I'm writing this, I'm remembering the scarecrow still needs a couple of stitches. Don't let me forget, okay?

Speaking of kitties, they hate grocery shopping as much as the humans of the household. They can't go outside until we get home. We're accompanied by a thundering herd when we head for the door upon our arrival home. This here is a kitty version of a high five.

There were just a few things I needed to do before I could get to my sewing. For one thing, I needed to boil and skin the beets for pickled beet canning today. The canning goes pretty quickly when the beets are prepared ahead of time. There was one housekeeping chore to do, and then I could get back to sewing.

It was pretty quick to finish off Tiny House #30. I believe I mentioned in an earlier post that I gave this one a night sky so the lighthouse could shine its light.

Here are the 30 Tiny Houses I have so far. Just six more to go.

Just now, I looked at the calendar to count out the week when the last one will be released. It looks as if our trip will cause me to fall behind by three. No problem. Three doesn't sound too daunting, and I'll come back from our trip refreshed and raring to go. I've forced myself through this project, but when I see them all together, I'm glad I stuck with it. The quilt that comes from them is going to be very cute, I think.

Okay, and so then I could move ahead with the baby quilt guilt free. The next step was to sew all the two patches into four patches.

And then, I could lay out the blocks to be sewn together. It was a bit of a puzzle getting them laid out in the correct orientation.

And then, it took about an hour to finish this quilt top. It ends up at 42 x 42 inches. I've decided to call it "Counting Sheep."

Today I'll make a back for it from that same barnyard fabric. I have some binding fabric picked out too. I'm hoping to get it to quilting stage today. It shouldn't take too long. And then, I'll quilt it with some sort of dot-to-dot motif, although I haven't quite figured out where the dots will be.

Aside from pickling beets, I need to water the flower pots today. I made tonight's dinner yesterday. It's a Chilled Zucchini Soup with Lemon and Basil. I'd seen the recipe on my own, but then my friend Debi sent it to me as well. It seemed like a message from the universe. Besides, I had a pile of fresh basil to use, and so I killed both zucchini and basil in the same recipe. It tasted pretty good straight out of the blender, but I think it will be even better now that it's had some time to chill. Either way, it was an easy no-cook dinner.

Okay, then. Off I go. The weekend is almost here. Chin up.

Cute quilt. Those babies are so lucky.
Sunday is national Left hand day. Ya hoo! (i'm left handed, so it's a big day). Well, I kinda use both hands. I sew, hand sew, left, but in the kitchen..I use paring knives and pealers right handed (I know.. I'm messed up).
Anyway, Happy Left Hand Day, y'all !

Six more tiny houses? Are you sure? Each row has five houses and my math tells me you have likely one more row left to do and so doesn't that mean you have 5 left? I was never good at math in school so maybe I'm wrong, but if I'm right...you're welcome.
The baby quilt is adorable. Good choice on fabrics!
