Lazy Day

Good morning, my friends. Happy Sunday morning to you. We're slowly regaining our energy here. The past week I've been carrying on about how busy I've been. Mike was equally busy getting things done outside. Both of us were in serious need of a day off yesterday. My morning started at the farmer's market with Erik and Mae, which is always a delight. I came home with more carrots and beets for pickling. Those can sit in the fridge for a day or two while I collect myself.

Because I needed to leave early, yesterday's slow stitching had to wait until I got home. I had one errand to run first. When I reached home, I wasted no time getting at it. There was just a little bit left to finish off the whole piece.

Cute, huh? I especially like the sentiment on this one.

When that was finished, I was in serious need of a nap. Sadie got a head start.

Usually I plop down on the living room couch. I don't want my afternoon naps to last too long and keep me from sleeping at night. Yesterday I opted for the quiet of the bedroom. Smitty joined me and we had a good long nap. Mike was napping on the couch in the basement. We were both ready to make some serious zzzzzzzz's. When I got up, I found Sadie in the sewing room wondering when we were going to get to work. She was keeping an eagle ear out for any signs of Smitty too. We could hear him scratching at the scratch pad in the next room. 

Having finished my "short" stitchery, it was time to make up the last of the "Seasons" blocks. This one is called "Fall Harvest." It's pretty hard to see those traced lines.

The only other thing on my sewing to-do list was to make the back for the Vintage Linen quilt. It was still on my ironing board, but this is how it will look. The dark purple strip was made from the cut-off ends of the stop border from the quilt top. I like it when I can use all the scraps generated during the finish.

Now that one will go on the quilts-to-be-sandwiched pile. It'll probably be at least a year before it ends up under my quilting needle.

So what's next? I'm at Section 3 on my white board: "Small Quilts to Quilt." Books and Roses...you're next.

In case you've forgotten what Books and Roses looks like, here's the finished quilt top. This was one of Jenny of Elefantz BOM's from last year, I think. Mine was done in the colors for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Usually I do these small quilts on my domestic machine. I'll probably end up using some of the fancy stitches on Big Bertha to quilt the narrow sashings. I haven't spent a lot of time thinking about this yet, and so we'll all have to wait and see what my hands do with it.

When I was finished cleaning up in the sewing room, I came upstairs to find these two young deer grazing in the field. This picture was taken through the window that looks out on the catio, and therefore, through the catio fence as well.

To its left there was another one hiding at the edge of the woods. These two have been hanging around for a few days.

We had a simple dinner of a steak salad planned. It was nice to have a lazy day after working so hard last week. Today will be a mostly sewing day. I have to start off with some work outside...hoeing the garden, watering the flower pots, and feeding the birds. After that...nothing but sewing. And laundry. As we've discussed in previous blog posts, laundry and sewing are good workmates. It's going to be a good day. There are beets and carrots to can in the coming week, but most of next week is going to be sewing. I'm looking forward to getting quite a bit accomplished.

It's time for our Sunday morning blueberry oatmeal pancakes. It'll be a tasty way to kick off the slow week ahead of me.
