Lotsa Sewing

Good morning, my friends. My windows are clean, and I can gaze out on the gray skies of the morning without seeing spots. It's always nice when that once-per-year task is complete. And consider how much exercise I got walking to my checkbook and tearing the check along the perforation. Yeah...I'm saying that's exercise done right.

Scott generally shows up late in the morning...just one more reason we like Scott. He knows what a civilized morning looks like. We wanted to get the kitties out for a walk before the scary Man showed up. Smitty was on the hunt for some good grass.

Sadie checked on the newly-planted dahlia tuber. She reported that everything was looking purrfect.

We still have apples. That's encouraging. Our tree is small, but it generally produces enough apples for a single apple crisp. These are about the size of marbles, but the red color is deepening.

Not much is blooming just now, but I noticed the daylilies are starting to color up. We're expecting rain for the next several days, and so I hope they'll wait just a few more days before opening.

Back inside, Smitty was my helper cat for the day's sewing.

We finished Tiny House #22...always a relief when the week's block is complete. There will be another one on Monday.

And then I went to work on the 6th block for the Barn Sampler. This one was a little tricky. I had the whole thing nearly sewn together when I realized I had it wrong. It was an easy-enough fix. I'm doing these in whatever color is suggested for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, so this one was done in greens and blues.

Here are the six blocks I have for this quilt so far:

Tomorrow will be busy with it being Father's Day. I'll be making Eggs Benedict for Mike's breakfast, and then I volunteered to cook dinner for the family. I'll be baking a lemon meringue pie tomorrow morning, and then for dinner, it will be his favorite Chicken Marsala. I'll make a vegetable and some mashed potatoes. Mae is bringing one of her wonderful charcuterie boards. Thinking of charcuterie reminds me of this post I've seen a few times on Facebook:

When "Lunchables" first came along, I was already a grown-up, so it works for me. Mae does a good job too.

So all of that tomorrow's food talk to say it's going to be a busy day tomorrow. I need to hoe the garden this morning, but after that, it's going to be NBS. I need a day to rest up before all that cooking tomorrow. Today's sewing will be to make the next row for the Painted Ladies. These are the two rows I have so far.

I'm running out of ribbons and other stuff to use at the roof line, and so I'm going to start using some of my grandmother's crocheted lace from the doilies and dresser scarves I cut when I made the Vintage Linen quilt blocks.

If I can finish the next row for the Painted Ladies, I'll move on to the next two blocks for the Whimsical Garden. These blocks are so bright and cheerful. It's a good project for a gray day. Here are the ten block I have for this quilt so far:

Just now, I noticed I have two of the blocks turned the wrong way in that image above. I'll take a better picture when I make the next two blocks. And if I can get all that done (doubtful), that will be a good sewing day.

It's the last day to enter Sadie's Gotcha Day Giveaway. I'll be back tomorrow to announce the winner. Good luck, everybody!

You've got 3 house quilts in the works, all of them are really fun. Your Whimsical Garden blocks are really pretty. You've got lots of colorful stuff in the works. No wonder Grad Girl likes our charcuterie dinners, Lunchables were one of her favorite school lunches.

I continue to be amazed with all those tiny little pieces in the Tiny Houses blocks! And also amazed that you are continuing on with making them… I don’t think I would have the patience to deal with those small bits!! But you are going to have a great quilt when you are done! I am enjoying following your progress!!

Happy Fathers day, Mike ! Enjoy your wonderful food and company.
It will be quiet here. Nice, but quiet.

All of your blocks are looking great! Wilbs is being particularly pestery this morning - he is fixated on those elastic bands that close a book - no idea why, but he's being a pill. Glad your kitties are being more help!

I always enjoy the tour of your garden. All those pretties are great inspiration for the Whimsical quilt blocks. Hope Mike had a great Father's Day!
