Finishing Small

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day yesterday. We survived our grocery shopping trip. It wasn't too bad. Our list was shorter than usual, and the store was surprisingly uncrowded for a Wednesday. It's probably because we sandwiched our shopping between Senior Discount Day and the Thursday through Saturday $10 off coupon days. I wish we'd hit our days a little better to save a little more money, but oh well. The uncrowded store was worth the cost.

When we had the groceries put away, we set free the kitties. It's been warm here the past couple of days, and they appreciated the opportunity to cool their tummies on the deck outside.

While we were out, this squirrel scolded us and scolded us. You might have thought he'd get laryngitis with all the yelling he was doing.

When it was time for sewing, I started by sewing the binding onto the Sewing Day wall-hanging. I wasn't sure I was going to like those button jars across the bottom. The binding made all the difference somehow.

I was determined to finish Tiny House #21 too. When I went to work Sadie showed up.

Papurr-piecing again?

Oh, would you look at the time! I'm afurraid I have to be someplace. TTFN!

So, no kitty help for me, but somehow I finished the Tiny House on my own.

There was still time left in the day to hand-sew the binding, and now this one is marked as finished. It ends up at 16 x 20 inches.

Here's how it looks from the back.

We had a dinner of Chicken Caesar Salad outside last night. Smitty gets special outdoor privileges in the evenings. He's a good boy and comes in when he's called...not like that other cat who shall not be named, who runs away when it's time to come in. Also, it's good gopher hunting at that time of the day. He didn't catch anything, but he got a dirty face for his efforts.

All-in-all, it was a good day, despite the grocery shopping.

Mike is heading out this morning to ride electric skateboards with Matthew. It's the second time in about a month. I keep telling him not to break his body. I'm going to put in a supreme weeding effort in the vegetable garden this morning. There are always little green sprouts to hoe down, but I'm going to try sitting beside some of the rows and hand-picking little weeds where I'm unable to use the hoe. It might be a short-lived effort if it turns out to be too tedious. I might have to do it over several days. There should still be some time for sewing.

Next up on my white board is to sew together a small quilt top. Next on the list are the blocks for the Books and Roses quilt. This will be a small quilt, and I'll probably end up using it as a table topper. Here are the blocks I have for it.

I'll probably give it a narrow sashing, and then I'll use this fabric from the back of Ella's Flower Garden in the outer border.

If there's enough, I'll use it on the quilt back as well. When that is finished, I'll move on to the "meat and potatoes" section of the white board where I'm making quilt blocks. There's always plenty to keep me busy in the sewing room.

And so here we go. Onward, Thursday! Have a good day, Everyone!

When you're out grocery shopping for your family, maybe you can put a can of cat or dog food in your cart and bring it to an animal relief center. ~ Rachael Ray

I was working on my challenge quilt yesterday, and Wilbs really thought he should be right in there, helping (not). Not even snacks distracted him. I finally had to escort him from the room while I finished up. Hope Mike stays in one piece while skateboarding!

Our squirrel never scold us! They just play hide and seek!

I like the small quilt! Are the button jars printed or stitched?

Your Tiny house came out good! I could not get the Upper dormer windows to line up! And after it was done, my center sky fabric was wrong. I had used my window fabric instead of my sky fabric! OH, well. I not changing it now!

The tiny house really is a cute one, but so many pieces that I can understand why you did it in stages. Hope your husband comes back from his skateboard adventure all in one piece.

I know what you mean about plenty to do in the sewing room. I often tell my hubby that I'll never run out of things to sew! Keeps me quiet and keeps me happy.

I know those house blocks bug you but they are so cute. This one is my favorite.

That tiny house block is really cute, you managed all those tiny pieces well. Your embroidered mini is so cute. That row button jars at the bottom makes it look like the embroidery piece is hanging on a wall over them. You've made good progress on all your WIPs this month. Happy stitching this weekend.

oooh - I LOVE those sweet little birdies you used for the backing!
I didn't know there was such a thing as an electric skateboard and yes, I hope Mike and Matthew don't break themselves! Even non-electric skateboards can be dangerous to body parts.
